Track Meet Set for Saturday at Myrtle Point Fair Grounds

Coos county interscholastic track meet scheduled for May 4 at the Myrtle Point fair grounds. Division B events start 10:00 am with four field and sprint events, Division A at 1:30 pm directed by H W Lever and officials from Roseburg and North Bend. Eligibility lists due May 8 with limits of three entrants per event and two in hurdles. Local organizers expect strong turnout across schools. Laird and Garrett win timber bid at Roseburg federal sale for 200 acres on Rock creek, paying 80 300.54 to protect holdings.

Roberts Store Closure Amid Attachments at Myrtle Point

J N Roberts grocery closed early this week with a notice of goods attached by Dr R H Mast. Roberts, a longtime Myrtle Point grocer, recently fell ill and was hospitalized at Mast and Wilson. The store faces hospital bill stakes as the attachment protects medical costs. Roberts has a Kansas sister due soon to bring him back home. Chas Brodrick family moved into a home bought from Archie Bush on Fourth Street.

Senior class play Am I Intruding to be staged at high school

The senior class presents Am I Intruding a modern mystery comedy with rapid action and laughs. Horace Vare and Bluebird Motors plot entangle a colorful cast including Jerry from Sage Creek and Margie Davre as Vi and Dora. The play runs Friday and Saturday May 10-11 at 800 PM with reserved seats at Harlocker's drug store.

Myrtle Point prepares a busy two week span featuring a music recital at Union High School by Mrs O Clarke students. Night school for visiting parents, Junior Senior banquet at Methodist church parlors, seniors play at the high school, eighth grade and graduating class exercises, a May 12 baccalaureate sermon by Rev Omer Idso at the Methodist church, and upcoming school picnics.

Myrtle Point Future Farmers of Smith Hughes win second in state contest at Corvallis with 16 schools represented. Truman Wagner named one of ten outstanding Smith Hughes boys of Oregon and elected vice president of the Oregon Future Farmers club. Local group accompanied by instructor Earl R. Cooley. Myrtle Point Typing Team Captures State Championship

Myrtle Point high school typing team won the Oregon state contest in Corvallis with an average of 67.09 wpm, setting a new speed record. Members Reneva Volkmar Elma Russell Doris Mann and Margaret Lover helped secure the cup and top team honors coached by Eleanor Saubert. Dolly Richards Baker won the amateur gold with 83.31 wpm. Edna Helen Jones Medford set the novice record. Dallas took top team accuracy at 91.46 percent. Thirty seven schools competed.

Local girl hurt in second auto wreck near Cottage Grove

Mrs. Robert Clinton returning from a visit with her daughter Mrs. Vern Hasen collided near Remote with a motorcycle parked by the roadside. Mrs. Clinton sustained back and neck injuries and was treated at Mast and Wilson hospital. Mrs. Burr steered into a bank to avoid a head on crash. the car was badly damaged. A prior accident involving Miss Ray and the Detlefsen boy was recalled with serious injuries.

Alaska the Last Frontier Lecture Preview

An illustrated talk titled Under the North Star will be given at the Presbyterian church next Sunday at eight o'clock replacing the regular service. The talk, free to attend, will use seventy-seven colored stereopticon slides and there will be a silver offering. The piece wraps up the mission class study.

Woman Hurt In Car Crash At Store, Miss Lois Ray Hospitalized

Miss Lois Ray is laid up in Mast and Wilson hospital with a neck injury after a Friday car collision near the Neway store. She was in a group including Jim Lewelles Marian slleh and Mrs Hari Clinton detving when their vehicle was struck by Teen Detlemen who had just parked at the store. The others were unhurt.
