Members of the Myrtle Point older pioneers club hosted a birthday style gathering at the Presbyterian church for residents past fifty. The event featured tea, a musical program, and remarks by Wallace Dement as the group recognized long-time residents and celebrated age and community ties.

Myrtle Point 3B Bowlers finished sixth after Friday’s Marshfield league night, tying with Coquille Garage for fifth as Ricketts Jewelers clinched the league title. Standings show Ricketts Jewelers 58 wins 32 losses, Courtesy Cleaners 55 35, Thurnb Tire 52 38, Lou Blanc 42 48, Myrtle Point 39 1, Chaule Garage 49 51, SP Owls 38 52, Reedsport 38 52.
The Myrtle Point hosted meet features field events at Coquille starting 10:00 AM and track events at the Myrtle Point fairgrounds from 1:30 PM. Admission is free with events including shot put discus javelin high jump broad jump pole vault and a full afternoon track slate led by athletes from Myrtle Point and Coquille.
Empire Rodeo association directors met last Sunday and decided not to hold a July 4 show this year in competition with the Fair Board rodeo set for July 4 5 and 6. The group indicated Empire and citizens may support the Fair association. Mayor George Melville and others were part of the decision.
A high school gym tea hosted by the Girls League combined with officer installations and a style show. Guests enjoyed punches and cakes as Frederick Dallas and others provided music while Lola Tripp became president and other officers were named.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Myrtle Point elected and installed officers led by Commander L. J. Wilson with Waldo Carter as senior vice commander Almon Ely as junior vice commander and Gus Metxgus as quartermaster adjutant District Commander Eugene Horton of Marshfield and District President Helen Pancoast of Bridge conducted the installation Sunday at the VFW hall in Myrtle Point
Bbyrtie Pokal coalition started a city beautification drive running to June 14 with prizes for top households. Free trash hauling will occur May 14 east of Sixth Street and May 15 west of Sixth Street. Residents asked to use containers and place debris for pickup.
Clem Howard beat Bill Barrows two and one to win the Spring Handicap tournament at Coquille Valley Country Club this week. Cottage Grove golfers won 40 to 35 as Clayton Mast organized the event. A return match is set for May 11 with Cottage Grove players listed among the visitors.
Myrteweed Bakery at Styrtle Point announces a new Vitamin Bread baked with whole wheat ingredients and added niacin iron and vitamins. The loaf, produced with government and defense committee approval, remains at the same price while a slight cost increase is absorbed by delivery, says proprietor Ralph Whitaker.
Mrs. Aiton and Mrs. Est attended the Episcopal deasmeryim Coquille Tuesday. They report that Rev. Chas Guibert of Cogague was elected new president and dean of the Southwestern Oregon organization.
