At a Saturday meeting Mrs Harold Stemmler hosted House wives for 42 to draft a brief urging public works aid for Highway 42. Stemmler called Gov Holmes who urged sending the brief pronto. The governor said millions will be spent to bolster the economy and Oregon will get a good share for deserving projects.

Public Utility Commissioner Howard Morgan suspended West Coast Telephone Company rate increases that would raise annual revenue by about 600000 and affect more than 60 thousand customers in Beaverton La Grande and Coos Bay districts. A six month investigation and public hearings will determine public interest and reasonable returns.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club will sponsor the annual Easter Ham and Bacon shoot next Sunday March 30 beginning at 10 am. Jerry Stine and Orville Ziegler escaped a two rollover crash on Powers Highway after a car left the shoulder and tumbled down a hill toward the river. Rescued by a highway crew, both men were bruised and shocked but alive, returning home from veterans hospital with Ziegler recently released after more than a year. Stine attributed their survival to divine protection.
Myrtle Point Bobcats win the A-2 Sportsmanship Award and finish third in the state tournament after beating Scappoose 62 50. Coach Jack Orr praises players and Myrtle Point fans, noting strong support and a royally treated team in Salem.
The Myrtle Point Jaycees plan a Teen-age Safe Driving Road-e-o on April 26 open to teens under 20 with licenses and no recent moving violations. Local winner goes to Clatskanie for state, then national competition in Washington DC with three scholarships totaling 4500 dollars.
Bandon club travels to Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club next Sunday at 9:30 AM to face local golfers in the season’s first tournament. About 20 Bandon players are expected, with local ladies invited to participate if Bandons ladies do not join.

Led by Mrs Franklin Crook and Mrs Gene Parsons, the project is a community service effort with no donations received. only accredited representatives will call on residents during the drive.

County Clerk Georgiana Vaughn certifies three LWV registrars to register voters in Coos County during spring and summer. Registrars Debut at a PTA meeting and will serve groups countywide, including absentee voting aid. Registration deadlines: April 16 for May primaries and October 4 for November general election.

He urges bingo card and dice games slot machines and a weekly state lottery with profits reducing taxes and raising personal exemptions to 150 for singles and 2500 for married couples. He also calls liquor policy reforms.
