About 20 members from Bandon Golf Club will visit Coquille Valley Golf & Country Club on Sunday March 30 for the season opener. The event features two-Bandon and two local players per foursome, teeing off at 9:30 am with a nine hole round before lunch and a second round after. Local hosts will provide lunch after the matches.

Oregon voters will choose nominees for national state and district offices from 275 candidates listed by Secretary of State Mark Hatfield. The Coast region shows nine governor hopefuls with three Democrats and six Republicans. The primary is Friday May 16 with polling places announced in advance.
Pacific Power and Light releases a 24 page report to its 36,329 stockholders detailing a $54 million construction year and ongoing Eden Ridge site studies on the South Fork of the Coquille river for a 67 500 kilowatt hydro electric project. The report notes potential tie in with a steam electric generator and lists water development at the Bandon dunes as future PP&L work.
Sig Unander, Republican candidate for governor, will visit Coos County at the Coquille hotel Monday afternoon March 24 from 2 30 to 4 30 for a coffee hour with locals. He is the current state treasurer and will be accompanied by Mrs Unander. Mrs George Litsenberger is in charge of the meeting and invites all interested residents to attend with questions.
Harold Csergei, six foot four, leads the A-2 state quint tournament at Salem with more than 400 points and an 18.5 point per game average as Myrtle Point challenges eight teams.
Barklow Realty moves its office to 523 Spruce in a remodeled space with a rear apartment while Walter Barklow sells 8th and Harris lots to Tom Burke of Associated Oil for a new gasoline station. Ann Parrish buys two Barklow houses and moves them to 6th and Willow.
Myrtle Point Bobcats edged past Douglas-Dillard 44 to 42 in overtime at Salem to reach the A-2 class state semifinals. Ray Mast propelled the final surge with a one handed stab for the decisive points as Bruce Dunn’s late shot barely clicked, keeping Myrtle Point alive for a meeting with St. Francis of Eugene.
Myrtle Point cheerleaders wow the crowd at the third annual state A-2 basketball tourney opening day in- cluding Bobcat band music and dance routines. The Bobcats win over Douglas with strong support from the Myrtle Point squad and top students Bruce Dunn Dick Wilson Harold Csarges Ray Mast and Bill Harper.
The Myrtle Point Baptist church announces a spiritual life Bible conference led by Rev Alex Sauerwein. Beginning Sunday March 23 and running nightly through Friday March 28, services are at 7 30 p m Sunday 7 00 p m. Sauerwein will speak at both morning and evening services each day with the theme Traveling with Jesus to Calvary. Everyone is invited to attend with Bible in hand.
The first fish salvage of 1958 occurred in three ponds near Myn Point. Oregon State Game Commission agent Bill Bain led Coquille Explorer Scouts in recovering over 600 young silver salmon, assisted by Fred Harney Dick Mauro Eddie Leatherwood Jim Henry and Earl Schnoor. Other species included starry flounders catfish sculpin and many small fish released into the Coquille River.
Bulletin reports Myrtle Point Bobcats lost to St Francis of Eugene 51 to 47 in a state championship game at Salem Tuesday. Details were unavailable before press time. The Bobcats still contend for third place in the tournament with the Dallas-Scappoose loser. Finals set tonight at 7:36.
Myrtle Point area ministers announce a Good Friday service at the Presbyterian church on Friday April 4 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Seven to eight ministers from participating churches will lead the session and provide scriptural instruction. The public is invited and schools may grant excused absences for students.
The Union High senior class staged The Desperate Ambrose on March 14 and 15 with Mike Van Camp as Ambrose and Claud Meyers as Bert Meyers partner. Cast also included Bill Harper as the Sheriff and Judy Starr as Anne Martin in a costumed rural comedy with lively performances and period dress.
A Lions club and Jaycees delegation met with the city council to urge lower rental rates for the Community building citing the Lions nearly $16,000 investment and many volunteer hours. The council directed the recreation committee to draft a new, cheaper schedule if feasible and reviewed Summer Youth Recreation plans. Other actions include accepting Moon's Hardware bid for a 500 gpm turbine pump and Don Harder Co. bid for pump renovation, with legislative papers drawn to call bids on $50,000 in water bonds due to low timber sale interest.
