Fire destroys Hoff man home near Hoffman Bridge

A Tuesday afternoon blaze at the Hoff man residence near Hoffman Bridge completely destroyed the house and barn. Myrtle Point Fire Department fought the flames but could not stop the spread before the alarm sounded. crew faced difficulties due to equipment and water pressure conditions until relief arrived.

Junior Society Honored At Dinner At Presbyterian Church

The newly formed Christian Endeavor group at the Presbyterian church held a covered dish dinner with 16 children and sponsors Rev H T Mitchelmore and Mrs Cora Bryant. Twenty Catholic laymen from St Anne parish Myrtle Point and nearby missions attended a complimentary dinner in Roseburg on Sunday honoring Archbishop Edward D Howard. Winter Crops Thrive Locally Near Myrtle Point

On the Roseburg highway three miles east of Myrtle Point T M Stover reports ideal winter conditions for broccoli. He harvested four fine specimens this week on his farm noting a Pacific coast climate influenced by the Japanese current. The broccoli plants, set out last August, yield three to four pounds each.

Fire destroys barn on Sandy Creek farm near Wyrick

A Tuesday blaze at LB Jennings’s Sandy Creek property, rented to Henry Wyrick, destroyed a large barn and most of the farm gear. Four work horses, a bull, harness, and implements were lost. cows were outside the structure, limiting total damage.

Local Couple To Be Married In Portland Weekend

Miss Danford Mast and Donald Gilkison plan to marry in Portland and then Vancouver Washington this weekend. They will return to Myrtle Point to reside in the John Carver house on Eighth street between Maple and Willow. Gilkison is the son of Ralph and Mrs Gilkison of Myrtle Point. Mast is the daughter of Joe and Mrs Mast of Alder street. Both are Myrtle Point High school graduates. Gilkison worked at the Coquille veneer plant.

The Satmor mountain gold Chrome mine workers left Saturday for Nienago and will visit associates Walter Pinatzer of Johnston and Andrew Nehseim, Olav and Harald Nesheim of Glenwood. Minn, preparations were made to start operations immediately as the ww mill on the property was tempered for a flume. A dam to raise water for the flume failed after RH Harrison, dam supervisor, expressed disappointment. The note suggests a return to former management with Billy McLaughlin.
