The Coos Curry Shrine Club invites all Masons and guests to the annual Presidents Ball at the Community building in Coquille next Saturday evening. Grand march begins at 10 pm with semi formal dress. price is 5 dollars per couple.
An adult archery class will be held at the Sportsmen's Club House this Friday evening starting at 8 o'clock. Instructors include Duan Netland Frank Barrows and Bill Cobb. The Archers club is sponsored by the Sportsmen. adults are invited to attend and have no part.
Lynn C Thomas resigns as general manager of KWRO Coquille. Glen Nichols of Eugene will take over, with Thomas moving to run his Lakeview, Oregon station full time. He has lived in Coquille since 1952 after joining KWRO staff.
At the Coos County Republican Women's Club banquet Deskin Bergey of Pacific Power & Light urged wholehearted cooperation to develop power in the Northwest. He said the area must expand from 1.2 million kilowatts in 1930 to tens of millions by midcentury, stressing that existing proposed projects can meet demand through 1965 and beyond if action is taken now. The talk emphasized public and private roles and funding needs between 1955 and 1965.
Ron Endicott says an all-woman first aid course will start Wednesday evening March 27 at 7 30 at the Boy Scout building in Myrtle Point. Women interested are urged to register beforehand.

Mrs Cleta Holland 38, formerly of Myrtle Point Coquille, died Friday in a three car crash on Highway 99 about 12 miles from Canyonville. Husband Carl Holland injured and hospitalized in Eugene. son Carl Jr. injured. Others in the two other cars uninjured. Survived by husband, parents Roy and Mrs Robison, two sons Roy 19 and Dale 17, sister in Powers, aunt Mrs Harold Prable, aunt Mrs W L Bell. Funeral set for Thursday at Schroeder's Coquille.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce with Ray Getchell as chairman schedules a three day Dollar Day event Thursday through Saturday next week with all merchants participating. Tickets will be given with each $1000 purchase and each store offers a drawing prize. Winners posted in stores. free coffee and cookies served Saturday at the new post office building. Powers Lions sponsor Ray M Shaffar spearheaded a Myrtle Point Herald drive to recruit new Boy Scouts as subscribers. In two days they secured 36 new subscribers and one renewal, including Bill Fullerton Leon Murphy Geo Clark Clifford Edwards and many more. The campaign ends next Saturday with $100 paid per new subscriber and 50c per renewal, at $3.00 a year.
Regular bi monthly City Council meeting drew a capacity audience as property owners urged against railroad avenue and street upgrades. The remonstrance showed about half the affected frontage, prompting the council to drop the project to avoid a two thirds petition requirement. opponents cited financial burden.
Myrtle Point schools announce their annual Spring Vocal Concert at Myrtle Crest gym Friday at 8 p.m. Directed by Marilyn Puckett and Barbara Fryon, with both campuses inviting the public to attend.
Mr and Mrs Jim Myers arrived last week from Klamath Falls where Mr Myers attends OTI and are spending the spring vacation with their respective parents.
Howard Maples and George Burr urged passage of a 16 million dollar bond issue to finish Highway 101 from Gold Beach to Brookings. They emphasized federal 60 percent and state 40 percent cost sharing, with the bond sale expected to cover the remainder and speed construction.
Bolivar Copper Co president outlines chamber plan to build a copper smelter near ore properties. He cites a 150 by 350 foot area already stripped and core drilled, with ore proven and mining ready. Aluminum content complicates processing. pilot tests removed most aluminum, with a future processing plant planned.

Sessions meet weekly for 3 hours over 10 weeks in her basement at 1260 W Anderson Coos Bay. Registration is 5 dollars. Private First Class Lyman Priest of Myrtle Point Oregon named soldier of the month for March at the U S Army Antiaircraft Artillery and Guided Missile Center Fort Bliss Texas. Priest, lab technician in electronics, entered service January 1956 and did basic training at Fort Ord California. He and his wife Maude and daughter Sharon reside at 1828 Arlene street El Paso Texas.
