Monday night the City council discussed fire prevention and control. KE C Roberts proposed a 2inch pipe to link the McClellan Watson mill to the city main for better protection. The council agreed only the older fire truck should respond to fires outside the city without mayoral permission. The department was cautioned on fast driving and a maximum of three men on a truck. Alder Street width was to be standardized from 30 to 36 feet, with further investigation planned.

Reforestation Drive Expands Cedar Planting on Eden Ridge
Ranger Boyd Rasmussen reports 97 000 Port Orford cedar trees being planted on Eden Ridge land donated by Coos Bay Lumber in a project spanning about 150 acres. Seedlings, grown in Wind River nursery from CCC seeds, will be spaced eight feet apart and finished in roughly 18 days, under control of 14 workers led by Rasmussen. A prior two acre fire in the Sixes area was contained last Saturday.

About fifteen to twenty IOOF members traveled to Bandon on Tuesday to confer the third degree on Karl A. Dement of the local lodge and Elmer A. Miller of the Powers lodge. Myrtle Point lodge conferred the second degrees on both candidates at a separate meeting the following Wednesday. Seven members of Reitain Home lodge at Powers attended. Refreshments of cookies, ice cream, and coffee were served.

Quick Work Saves Barn On Hall Farm
The Hall family credit Myrtle Point fire department and Louis Root for saving a barn at Hall Farm from a hayloft fire that started around 10 15 Saturday morning. Mrs Root used wet sacks to confine the blaze as firefighters arrived from A Point and Lundy Cheese factory water fed into the pressure pump. Damage was light, a little over a ton of hay, with no barn damage per Harold Bargelt.
