Local Ladies Golf Tourney Opens Season at Coqu e Valley
Mrs H H Thomas led nine players in the Blind Bogie event at Coque Valley Country Club last Thursday for the season's first Ladies Day tourney. L L Sumerlin took second, S Adams third. monthly events set for the first Friday. Myrtle Point entrants included Mrs Roland Bowers and Mrs John Arnold. Safety Plaque Awarded To City Of Myrtle Point
Myrtle Point received a safety plaque at a Myrtle Cafe ceremony by Stanley R. Church of the state traffic safety division. The city placed second in 1940 for towns under 2500. New Myrtle Point Locker and Cold Storage to Open
Orville A. Hege and family will run Myrtle Point Locker and Cold Storage in a remodeled 6th Street building. The opening is set for Saturday March 2 with a grocery deli at the front and a 280 locker cold storage plant to start, room to expand. The Haags will occupy a modern facility with a sharp chilling room for quick freezing and 16 tons of planer shavings used in construction.

Army Plane Wrecks at Coos Bay Kills Major R P McDonald
An Army major, R P McDonald, 46, of the 36th pursuit squadron, was killed when a six ton attack bomber ditched in shallow water near the Coos Bay harbor entrance after running out of fuel. Lt. J J Trauer was uninjured. The duo was en route from Salt Lake City to Hamilton Field when forced to land. Crews dragged the plane from the surf. four enlisted men arrived later from McChord Field.

A near record turnout of 1 065 women from 27 counties attended the Oregon State College home economics conference. Delegates heard talks on family, nutrition, housing, clothing, and flowers while Dr KE Sidney Jones and Dr John Reisner added a distinct religious tone. New officers were elected and Julianne Wise of Jerome Idaho received the $25 council award.
