The Myrtle Point Rotary club formed months ago will receive its charter Monday at Coquille Valley Country Club in a dinner at 6 30 p m. Vincent Burlesque district Rotary head will present the charter. Dale King president will respond. The Marshfield North Bend and Coquille clubs sponsor the new organization.
Nurses of District 17 of the Oregon State Nurses Association gathered at Mr. T Veil Johnson s home on March 19. Joplin Morgan presented fishing trip photos and equipment for tying flies. Committees for 1941 were named and cash donations were collected for Bundles for Britain. Next meeting set for April 16 in Coquille at Mrs Lela Elrod s home.
Harold Matson of Coquille achieved a perfect 300 as Em Baco alleys hosted Myrtle Point and Reedsport. The event marks the first 300 on those lanes, drawing attention from local bowlers and Portland papers. Myrtle Point struggled with totals of 2317, while Reedsport posted 2341 with multiple scorers.
Funeral services were held at Schroeder Broa funeral chapel in Myrtle Point for Andrew Edward Ryerson 37 who died of a heart ailment at Mast hospital Sunday evening after weeks of illness. Rev C B Wall officiated. Interment at Norway cemetery. Ryerson was born November 24 1908 at Booth Bend India came to Oregon years ago and to the Myrtle Point community eight years ago. He was married nine years ago to Susanna Hayes and they had six children four boys and two girls survived by his wife and five children. They mourn his Dean. Mrs Ore Coquille left Saturday for a weeks init in Comserade.
The turkey outlook for 1041 improves due to expected consumer purchasing power through 1041-42. Outlook covers fruits potatoes milk meat wool horses and mules with higher prices for neat milk eggs wool and many animals. Demand abroad weak for exports but domestic conditions push production upward while farm costs rise.
The first round of the spring handicap tournament at Coquille Valley Country Club was played Sunday with many matches decided by default or margins. Upcoming second round games and consolation flight begin by March 31, with several matches already completed.
Principal Leland P Linn announced graduation plans for Myrtle Point Units High School. Commencement address will be by OSC Dean of Men G Dubach on Friday May 23.Baccalaureate service is May 18 at 8 p m with Rev H Barr speaking. Roll call will mark the class of 1936. Valedictorian is Carol Goover. graduate list includes Tejos Schroeder and many seniors. A special assembly will be held tomorrow at 1 p m for letters and musical numbers.
Workmen began a frame warehouse of 20 by 44 feet for Thrift Grocery at the rear of their store on recently purchased Lots on Fifth and Myrtle streets. A. G. Thrift plans a future modern store on the corner as Myrtle Point operations expand. Arthur R Jones visited Eugene with his family, including daughters Doris and Betty and son Donald from Camp Murray.
Miss Adeline Gurney returned to Grants Fas on Sunday after visiting at the Wm. Gurney home.
The Marshfield area program by the Bay Woman’s club features Geo. Larson speaking on flower arrangement and Mrs. L. E Brown on gardens. Mrs. R R H Lemon, publicity chair, notes books and pictures will supplement the talks. Mrs W A Couden and Mrs Paul Breuer will entertain with a piano duet.
Three Myrtle Point girls Miss Phyllis Bellow Miss Ebrola Volk and Miss Helen Austin modeled spring costumes in a fashion show sponsored by business and professional women in Coquille last night. A capacity crowd viewed casual dresses street frocks and formals with fern and pink blossoms as musical accompaniment from Mrs Harold Strom and Mrs Harold Glenn. Eunice Barrows described the costumes as presented while Maude Woodward sang Love in My Hearts Forever Spring and Ruth Towne performed Easter Parade with piano and violin accompaniment.
Senior girls clinch the interclass tournament title at Myrtle Point Union High School gym as sophomores defeat juniors. Seniors and freshmen each finish with two wins or losses, while the winning lineup features Virginia Strong Phyllis Bowns Cleo Duncan and Florence Whitt Doris Fry Eleanor Gurney. Also notes a traveling examiner for operators and chauffeurs will be at Myrtle Point city hall April 2 from 11 00 to 1 00 pm per Earl Snell’s Salem office.
Blayne M. Brewer director of the China Flat CCC camp discussed educational programs and local ties during a Wednesday town visit. The visit highlighted ongoing Seabees collaboration and community connections near Pow-Fees.
The Union High School board voted to renew most teaching contracts Tuesday night. Miss Helen Elle, who led the home economics program, resigned. Miss Virginia Humphrey, from Imbler Oregon, will join the staff. Remaining staff includes L P Lian, Ruth Jaynes, Helen Austin, Reta Fry, Alex Dewson, Frederick Dallas, Edgar Rickard, and Harold Schaed. Many teachers are returning with salaries steady or increasing.
The third in a series of Girl Scout leadership training classes met Monday in the Austin Dodges basement. Miss Ruth Jaynes led the routine-form meeting teaching knots trail signs and neck knots while providing recreation and instruction context. Attendees included Mrs. Austin Dodge Miss Jo Woolsey and several others. The fourth class will be next Monday night and more women are invited to attend.
Myrtle Point Girls' Athletic Club received an invitation from Marshfield High School's Physical Education department to send ten players to a Coos County Play day on Saturday April 5. The club will meet soon to elect delegates to represent the school.
The Point women’s park committee met at Mrs. N W Perkins house to outline improvements for the city park. Plans include repairing the tennis court fence, planting ivy along the south side, adding a rock-step SW corner garden, marigolds and candytuft on the NW SE corners, and dahlias and gladiolas along the south path under leadership of Mrs Waldemar Gurney.
L J Allen assistant state club leader visit spurred growth in sheep projects in Gold Beach. County Agent R M Knox says 34 members now join three clubs, each member required to raise a market lamb for the annual lamb and wool show. Orphan lambs from county sheep raisers are being sought.
A forthcoming wedding feature at the Towneend hall includes Rev A A Baker performing the ceremony. Organizers, led by Mrs Robin Soper and the La Boe Coquille group, coordinate daily charity efforts at the Odd Methodist Church with instrumental music planned and no meeting on Sunday.
