House Highway Committee Hears Testimony for 42 Bond Issue

The Oregon House Highway Committee held a public hearing at the state capitol with Rep Verne Cady chairing. Witnesses urged approval of House bills 425 and 419-425 to finance a 60 million bond for Highway 42 and related bridges, with 419 proposing a $7 auto license fee rise and a 29 year bond retirement. About 200 attended including Housewives for 42 who pressed for progress to aid the economy and linked projects such as the Winnemucca to the Sea and the Astoria Megler bridge.

Albertson elected to fill council vacancy and bids approved

The council chose Albertson to fill the vacancy left by Harold Rushing. His term runs to December 31, 1962. Resolutions set up two improvement districts for street work costing about 120 50000. Wooley won the bid for city property three miles east at 37 50000. Funds to be used for future waterworks or debt retirement.
