Elder Robert M Seeley Southern Oregon district president of the Reorganized Church speaks at Myrtle Point as the six week missionary series continues. He leads services through March with topics on theSocial Gospel Zion the New Jerusalem stewardship and making decisions for Christ.
Mrs. J. M. Myers chairs the Easter Seal drive in Myrtle Point area to aid crippled children. Funds support Camp Easter Seal at Ten-Mile Lake, Coos County, Oregon, with over a hundred campers. Coin containers are placed in local stores to collect donations. Seals will be mailed. youth groups may sell Easter lilies before Easter Sunday.
Holy Week observances run Monday March 23 to Friday at 8 00 pm except Thursday. The Lord's Supper will be observed Monday evening and Friday features the choir performing Ritter The Seven Last Words. A welcome is extended to all.

The Oregon House Highway Committee held a public hearing at the state capitol with Rep Verne Cady chairing. Witnesses urged approval of House bills 425 and 419-425 to finance a 60 million bond for Highway 42 and related bridges, with 419 proposing a $7 auto license fee rise and a 29 year bond retirement. About 200 attended including Housewives for 42 who pressed for progress to aid the economy and linked projects such as the Winnemucca to the Sea and the Astoria Megler bridge.
The council chose Albertson to fill the vacancy left by Harold Rushing. His term runs to December 31, 1962. Resolutions set up two improvement districts for street work costing about 120 50000. Wooley won the bid for city property three miles east at 37 50000. Funds to be used for future waterworks or debt retirement.
In Powers Oregon on March 17 special note that Agness has joined the Powers Variety Show joining a three hour program already planned. Agness Diana Tucker of Agness contributes stage decorations and Linda Hawley of Agness will appear on TV. Lions committee chair Lion Larry Maxwell says Homer Millard will recount a historical trapping meeting ending in a mock wedding.
Sam Dement, president of the Coos County Fair Association, served as the featured speaker at the annual FFA FHA banquet held at the high school last Thursday evening.
Local groups are urged to send in meeting dates for publication on the calendar service. Contact Mr Flbss at 247 for April 30 deadlines. The annual FFA FHA parent son and daughter banquet drew about 200 at the high school with Sam Dement as guest speaker.
Pacific Power and Light launches a centennial year campaign inviting national business leaders to visit Oregon in 1959 to explore industrial opportunities. Ads reprinted for local chambers and appearing in Wall Street Journal target 450 000 subscribers to inquire about Oregon business prospects. The copy touts Oregon as a growing state with room for expansion and modern industrial progress.
Coos Veneer & Timber Co of Broadbent announces purchase of Herzog mill and remaining equipment after a recent fire loss. The partnership of Wm J McKinley, Dewey Winkleman, Irven Pearce, and Leona Garrant acquired the Herzog mill and assets with no immediate plans disclosed.
The PTSD group sponsors a community event titled Looking in on Our Schools at the high school Friday April 3. Public invited to attend and learn about school safety initiatives and mental health resources.
Roundup from Salem reports Demos and GOP agreeing on a 306 million general fund cap with no new taxes or spending. Using a 30 million surplus and 12 million in non recurring income, the plan balances at 295 million via bonding for construction. Governor Hatfield calls for 300 million operating fund and 14 million building program.
Myrtle Lodge No 78 AF and AM sponsors its annual past masters night at the lodge hall on Saturday evening March 21. A banquet at 630 will be followed by a lodge meeting at 8 with the master Mason degree conferred by past masters. Delmer Greer is worshipful master and Gordon MacKeiryn is in charge of arrangements with visiting master Masons invited.
Ervin Wilberger owner of the Hiland Theatre announces a double bill for Sunday and Monday. Shepherd of Faith highlights the life of the late Pope Pius while Cary Grant and Sophia Loren star in Houseboat in Vista Vision and Technicolor.
