It calls for repentance, moral leadership, and a return to faith to restore America and guide the world.
Officials at Northwest Nazarene College Nampa Idaho announce Marlow Pounds son of Lloyd F Pounds Sitkum Route Myrtle Point is a member of the college Men's Glee club directed by Prof Marvin R Bloomquist. The freshman history major has recently appeared with the group for Valley organizations and on television.
Vic Partipilo of Chicago was to arrive to take over the editorial desk but sent word he would be delayed visiting a sister in Los Angeles. The writer remains on duty this week and repeats a reprint from Human Events alleging a big lie about New Zealand.
Troop 145 held a Court of Honor on March 7 at the scout building. Scout master Melvin Floyd and assistant Gordon MacKerrow presided. Honorees included James Stubblefield and John Rhodes as guests. Awardees spanned Tenderfoot to Star Scout ranks led by Jack Campbell, John Hartley, Terry Bushnell, Bob Clawson, Bill Clawson, John Meldrum, Jerry Brodie, Danny Brewster, Danny Lewis, Richard Van Duine, James Dunn, Ronald Panse, Ronnie Wells, Jim MacKerrow, Danny Ellis, James Krog, and Victor Murry. Candy-sale prizes went to James Dunn first and Bob and Bill Clawson second. Mrs Gordon MacKerrow chaired refreshments.
Eighty six local youths attended the awards night after completing a four week Hunter Safety program at the high school sponsored by the State Game Commission in cooperation with Myrtle Point Sportsmen's Club. Training covered hunting safety and related topics with a range firing demo. A new session begins Wednesday next week with free enrollment for age ten and over. Dr Michael G Carney, a Coquille dentist, announces purchase of the optometric practice of Dr Robert C Breidenstein in Myrtle Point. He will run Coquille office on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays and operate the Myrtle Point office in the Greer building on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. Myrtle Point hours are 9 am to 6 pm with special evening appointments.
Myrtle Point residents cheer as Arthur H. Evans of 1746 Maple St wins the $300 Stop and Shop prize from the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce. Evans vows to pay merchants and urges winners to cash certificates within 90 days. Next drawing set for March 25 at 2 pm with a $100 prize. absence forfeits to the jackpot for April 8.
Mrs Metta Rosslow of Myrtle Point is in Mast hospital with a broken knee and multiple bruises after a Thursday crash on Highway 42 about 27 miles east of Coquille. A truck driven by Willis Shull stopped. Mrs Rosslow slowed and was struck by a Union Oil truck driven by Billie Henderson, who likely has two broken ribs and was taken to Coquille clinic. Shull uninjured. a warrant was issued for his arrest. Traffic delayed about 1 1/2 hours. Dr Beber said Mrs Rosslow is improving and will be confined two to three weeks.
Susan Hauschildt Hall Thomas and Douglas Jenkins traveled from Lewis and Clark College in Portland to spend the week with their parents arriving Friday for a family visit and leisure time.
Rotarians from Myrtle Point Oregon plan to attend the District 544 Rotary International conference in Medford on April 9 to 11. District Governor William H. Lush of Eugene will preside at business sessions. A banquet on April 10 will feature a Foreign Office representative and a luncheon address by Anthony J. Pierpont with entertainment for Rotary wives.
The Hiland Theatre and Dol-R-Wise Market give away free passes to the Walt Disney All-Cartoon Show at the Hiland Theatre for three days March 1 17 and 18. Passes are distributed at Dol-R-Wise Market in the community event.
Myrtle Point city records show four petitions filed to stop proposed gating gutters and sidewalks in District 10. An unofficial 88 percent property owner count supports the move, exceeding the 66 2/3 percent required. New petitions from District 8 owners suggest the council may proceed with advertised improvements if bids meet a satisfactory price.
Coos County fair board met in North Bend to plan Myrtle Point events August 15 through 20 marking the 50th fair. Key points include dropping the Grange Talent Show, limiting 4-H exhibits to one horse per student, amending the premium list, and removing 4-H from Saturday horse show experiences due to overentry and OSC concerns.
A fire last Friday around 1 o clock caused extensive damage to a local structure. Fire crews suspect the blaze began in an upper floor area, with investigations continuing to determine the exact cause.
