Dutch Clinton of Coquille was unanimously elected president of the Coquille Valley Golf Club men's association at a Sunday meeting called by President Leroy Robinson. Leroy Robinson was named vice-president and Jack McClarrin secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Jake Otter was elected president of the women’s group with Mrs. Harold Stemmier as secretary-treasurer.

Highway Commission Seeks Bids for Coast Range Bridges
At its Salem bid opening on March 7, 1961 the State Highway Commission received bids for three structures on the Powers Junction Sugar Loaf Mountain section of the Coast Roseburg Highway about 2.5 to 3.6 miles east of Myrtle Point. The Hoffman Bridge on Powers Secondary Highway will be replaced by a 470 foot reinforced concrete bridge over Midstone Anelliae earth York Coquille. The project is set for January 1961 through 1962. An additional project calls for cleaning and painting structural steel in Bullards Bridge over the Coquille River near Bandon on Oregon Coast Highway. The steel to be painted weighs about 473 tons with completion planned for fall 1961.

A large crowd attended the Rotary club and Rotary-Anns musicale at the high school cafeteria on a Wednesday evening. The program featured the high school orchestra under Les Simons, the girls chorus directed by Rosemary Kronquist, vocal solos by Mixa T Rotemary Kronquist and Mrs G E Albertson, accompaniment by Mrs Albertson and Ruth Mischielie, a teen square dance directed by Dave Dixon, organ solos by Mrs Ron Endicott, and a lively routine by the Girls From Gay Paree led by Rufus Lockhart. A final trio by Mrs Ray Harris Sr, Mrs Frank Welbke, and Mrs Paul Breuer closed the show. Reverend Gerald Gear spoke on Rotary during the program.
