Terrific Wind Storm Swamps Myrtle Point Area

A Friday morning wind storm in Myrtle Point reached over 60 mph with higher gusts. A 45 foot trailer owned by Mr and Mrs Ross Robinson on Cemetery road toppled, injuring no one as residents were at work or school. A large tree limb damaged a PP&L line, cutting power downtown for over an hour, roofing torn on Spruce Street, and hats blown from passersby.

Welfare Officials Speak to Rotarians at Myrtle Point

L J Cooper and A M Hillstrom spoke to the Myrtle Point Rotary Club about Coos county welfare efforts to place welfare recipients in work. Cooper noted 80 000 trees planted and that 85 percent of welfare participants are not permanent dependents, with county forest programs aided by welfare workers.

Myrtle Point City Council Announces Two Street Projects

The Myrtle Point City Council announces two street improvement projects Nos 9 and 10 discussed at a recent meeting with 60 property owners present. The projects total an estimated 168000 funded via Bancroft bonding at 6 percent with a 10 year repayment term. A remonstrance petition is circulating to oppose one project.

Coquille flood control could raise farm income

A Coos County study estimates partial flood control in the Coquille River Valley would boost farm income by about 632000 dollars annually. Benefits include better boating recreation sanitation and municipal water supply, with further gains from diking and drainage improvements and irrigation of additional lands. About 21000 acres flood during heavy rains, with 7000 acres of the lowest lands benefiting most.
