The Myrtle Point Interchurch Fellowship plans a carry-in dinner at seven and a business session at First Presbyterian church on Monday March 11. Rev Wallace Jones will preside and Rev Bruce Ellithorpe will give a special inspirational address. Public invited. Mrs Chet Blizzard and Mrs Kenneth Galloway to sing.
The 1955 total government spending reached 664 dollars per person with 246 dollars for defense. Taxes per capita hit 491 dollars, more than six weeks of work to cover, while government debt rose by 8.5 billion dollars.
Ed note reports Coos County Chamber minutes from Coquille February 19. Mayor Robert Belloni spoke on the need for immediate state highway commission action with government aid to improve Highway 42 from Rink Creek to Myrtle Point. Myrtle Point city council voted unanimously to back a resolution approving the government Port Chicago ammunition depot relocation in the Coos Bay area. Mayor Robert Belloni suggested the move after a Coquille city council meeting where How ard Maples of the Coos County Chamber of Commerce spoke in favor.
Greyhound officials B. Satrom and Howard C. Beeler report the depot relocation from Fountain Lunch to the Myrtle Hotel in Myrtle Point. The change, made with Myrtle Hotel proprietor Russ Papineau, takes effect Tuesday March 5.

Rainy weather did not dampen a large crowd at Myrtle Point Sunday for the dedication of the town's new post office. Honored guests included members of the Coos Curry National Association of Postmasters and former postmasters from the local office.

He described the program to provide modern offices suited to postal needs and noted Myrtle Point now has a building with top equipment ready for years of service. He congratulated Postmaster Milton Schroeder.
The Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club plans the annual Spring Handicap Tournament with committee chair Al Hall and members Russ Holiman and Bob Hewlett. Players must submit at least five 9-hole scores by April 7 to qualify, brackets will determine cups, and work on the course continues for ready conditions.
Churches unite for World Day of Prayer this Friday March 8 with a community service at the Christian church starting 1 30 pm The event theme is Separate Us and participants include The Church of the Brethren The Presbyterian The Methodist and the Christian church all inviting area residents to attend regardless of faith.
Milton Roth of Springfield spent Monday in town on a business visit and stopped to call on his sister Mrs Arlon Duncan.
A busy week at St. Mark's Episcopal Church included laymen being installed into church offices during Sunday services led by Rev. Bruce Spencer with Austin G. Dodge assisting. Shrove Tuesday featured a pancake dinner for members and friends, and on Wednesday Rev. Fr. Dalley opened the Lent meditation series. All meetings drew good attendance.
About 85 Cub Scouts parents and friends attended Pack 99s annual Blue and Gold Banquet at Myrtle Crest gym. The event marked 47 years of Boy Scouting in the United States with awards for Scout achievements. Arlo Duncan served as toastmaster and den mothers helped present a ham dinner.
Lions club work brings Powers skating rink into operation with advance ticket sales led by Ralph Anderson who sold 176 dollars worth in two days. The Feb 23 meeting featured many district and local members from Powers and nearby communities.
A Myrtle Point Herald letter hints at Paul Harvey of Chicago possibly visiting the town as a Chamber of Commerce speaker. Herald reports an air mailed invitation and plans to arrange a weeklong event with full publicity if he attends.
The Coos County Medical Society announces a spring immunization program restricted to polio for pupils at Myrtle Point Elementary. Shots run Wednesday March 13 at Myrtle Crest and feeder schools with Dr. H H Thomas immunizing preschoolers as room capacity allows. No charge. Salk vaccine will also be offered at the high school on March 11 from 9:30 to 11.
