The M P Bobcats and Coquille Red Devils clash for district 4A2 title at Marshfield High Gym Coos Bay. Doors open seven, game slated to start at eight with both teams tied after Coquille’s three point win last Friday.
Coquille Red Devils surged late to a 35-32 victory over the Myrtle Point Bobcats in a tense Friday game at Coquille. Jammy Jarvis scored 19 points, nine in the final period, as Coquille erased a late Bobcat lead and held on. Myrtle Point JV and Frosh also lost to Coquille, completing a clean sweep for the visitors.
A 10 foot diameter giant Douglas fir felled near Sitkum will headline Oregon’s Centennial Exposition in Portland opening June 10. George Russell of Georgia Pacific oversaw the fall. a 40 foot log was cut from the tree. The log will tour Coquille Coos Bay North Bend and Eugene before arriving in Portland for display.
The Interchurch Fellowship will meet Monday March 8 at 7:00 pm at the Methodist church. A potluck dinner precedes the business meeting and program. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Chamber of Commerce banquet is scheduled for Monday night March 9 at the M. P. community building with Angler's cafe caterers. A social hour begins at 6:30 pm followed by a 7:30 pm dinner. Harold Clarno chairs the dinner committee and a special speaker is planned.

Chief William Tankersley, Myrtle Point's chief of police, was elected president of the Myrtle Point Rotary Club with term starting July 1. Harold Rushing is vice president, Lloyd Swenson sergeant-at-arms, L. W Clinton and Ron Endicott directors. New members Harold Watzling and Revert L Stoltz joined recently.
Harold Rushing announced he purchased an interest in the Coleman Funeral Home at St Helens. He and his family will move March 15 to the new venture, after eight years in Myrtle Point. Rushing has served on the city council and youth recreation committee, is a Rotary member, and active in the Christian church.
The Marthe Poat Sportsmen's Club with Gold Beach announces an inter club trophy shoot at Myrtle Pool Club March 8 starting 10 am. Birds can be registered with the PITA at that time, food and amusements available on site.
The Bobcat Booster Club plans a Monday meeting at MP High School. Officers including Curt Beckham and Ben Noeniele invite members to discuss and support the team. membership is open to men and women.

Postmaster Milton V Schroeder announces that as of March 1 1959 Arago Oregon is a rural station of the Myrtle Point office. Mail should be addressed Arago Rural Station Myrtle Point Oregon. The Arago mail will be received separately while book work is done at Myrtle Point. Oscar Harper is appointed clerk in charge of the Arago rural station.
The Future Farmers of America and Future Homemakers of America at Point Union High announce their annual joint banquet Thursday night at seven thirty. The event will be held in the high school cafetorium and features both organizations’ members.
Funeral services for William Frederick Edward Gurney were held at the Lutheran church with Rev Norbert Heins presiding. He died after a stroke at Mast Hospital and is survived by Martha Myrtle Point, Adeline Thieme, Dorothy Coatney, Eleanor Webber, and four grandchildren among other relatives. He retired from Gurney Cleaners, active in Myrtle Point civic life, and was born in Germany March 24, 1874.
A Tuesday public hearing in the city council chambers drew 30 residents from streets slated for paving. Fourteen favored the project, five opposed, with others silent as officials outlined costs rates and repayment options under Bancroft bonding. The city plans to start this spring with completion in about 20 days.
At the Myrtle Point chamber meeting the group discussed down milk sales in the area due to disorganization. The agriculture committee will study the issue with a report expected next meeting. Banquet tickets went on sale with Harold Clarno and Ben Daniels in charge. Membership dues total $1,006. Haruki Rushing resigned from the board.
Dr Walter J. Atkinson of the American Board of Missions Association will speak Monday night at 7 30 at Broadbent Community church as announced by Rev William Mat. The visitor is described as a converted Jew and comes highly recommended.
Council accepts resignation of Harold Rushing as city councilman due to family relocation to St Helens. A 1949 Ford tractor with a 16 inch rotary blade is ordered from Huling Tundy and Sons for about 1675 dollars, to aid street and right of way maintenance and reduce fire hazards.
