Street Improvements Proposed for ’59 by City Council

Myrtle Point plans a March 3 hearing at City Hall on street improvements including sidewalks curbs storm drainage and paving on all of C street Railroad Avenue 7th street south of Spruce to Bothwick and several Maple Harris Willow and Cathcart streets. City Manager Ben Nichols notes bond issues funded sewer trunks and water mains, with water filter plant to boost the system, and urges citizen cooperation despite possible assessments.

The Bobcats clinched the District 4A2 wrestling championship. Mrs. Waldemar Gurney returned home Sunday from a month visiting relatives in California and Colorado, meeting Mr. Gurney in Eugene.

E A Wyld Dies After Heart Attack at Home

Ernest Alfred Wyld age 64 died Saturday after a heart attack at home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St Ann and St Michael's Church with Rosary Monday night. Interment followed Wednesday at Mt Calvary cemetery in Portland. He lived in Myrtle Point eight years and worked at The Security Bank. born September 21, 1894 in New Westminster, BC. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and belonged to Catholic church groups, American Legion, and other local organizations. He leaves a widow and three grandchildren.

Myrtle Point Wrestlers Place In State Tournament

Myrtle Point High sent thirteen to the Oregon state wrestling meet at Corvallis. Dan Walker reached the 157 finals, losing on points to Vale’s Rambo. Walker finished second. Terry Owens placed third after losing early to the eventual runner up. Jim Brodie finished fourth at 157 while Gary Twins placed fourth at 168. Butch Brodie dislocated a shoulder and could not fight later. Willamette High won the A-1/A-2 joint title with 36 points to Myrtle Point’s 35.

Linda Ford Wins DA Award For Coos County

Miss Linda Ford received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award for Coos County at a Saturday tea at the Pioneer Museum. Judges weighed essays from Coos Bay North Bend and Coquille Anessey with Ford’s work forwarded to the state chairman for the state competition. Ford, a senior at MPUH, is daughter of Mrs John Stevens, with locals including her grandmother Mrs Jesse Hayes and aunts present.

Melden Carl Elected President of Dairy Assn

Melden Carl and his brother Herbert operate Myrtle Crest Dairy at Arago and were re elected president of the Coos Counts Dairy Breeders Association during the February meeting. Glen Genzoli became vice president and Fred Cushing of Norway was named secretary treasurer. PP&L seeks year extension to study Eden Ridge dam site

PP&L asked the Oregon Hydroelectric Commission for a one year renewal of its preliminary permit for Eden Ridge on the South Fork Coquille River. Engineering work includes geological surveys and topographic mapping with studies of stream flows in cooperation with state and federal agencies.
