Some Stores Closing for 4th of July Holiday

The Squaw Lake salvage timber sale on the Passis Ranger District of Siskiyou National Forest closed June 21 1961 with Wesley Morgan of Agness Oregon as high bidder at 1439750 dollars for a 12 acre area containing about 5 million board feet. Frye Brothers Logging Co of Powers Oregon also bid. Estimated volumes and bids include Douglas fir 329 million board feet appraised 28.44 bid 39.90 and Orford cedar 60 million board feet appraised at 27.25 with bids 27.25. western hemlock and other species 50 million board feet appraised at 56.3 bid 9.85.

Man's Hand Torn By Small Dog

The 3rd annual Coos County Fat Lamb and Feeder sale is scheduled for July 1 1961 at the Coos County fair grounds Myrtle Point. Over 2000 head of lambs are expected with sale time at 2 30 p m. Two Myrtle Point Girls Entered in Beauty Contest
Cheryl Guerin and Jackie Francie of Myrtle Point enter the Miss Coos County contest at the school auditorium Friday night. Guerin, a 1961 graduate daughter of Mr and Mrs Tom Guerin, plans Oregon State University study with a dramatic reading talent and a background in piano dancing and acting. Both girls compete with four from Coos Bay and three from North Bend for the county title and state entry.

Estelle suit against city settled before trial
Mrs Agnes E Estelle of Myrtle Point withdrew a $37855.50 damage suit against the city after an undisclosed settlement was announced in Judge Kings court. The action, over fumes from the sewer plant, had jurors seated and a trial scheduled. Another related suit by the Estelle couple awaits possible settlement.

Durman Love Named New Pastor at Christian Church
Reverend Durman Love is appointed pastor to succeed Rev Mutten who retires after fifty years in ministry. He will preach this Sunday. Love comes from Zion Church of Christ in Dexter Oregon and is a World War I veteran who served three years in the army. He grew up in Molalla Oregon and joined the local Christian church there.
