Three Local Lads Join Smoke-Eater Fire Season
Roger Weed Ben King and Dennis Armstrong began summer work with the Coos Forest Protective Association. They will be stationed at the Bridge station and have time off only as fire hazards and weather permit. Coos County Feeder and Fat Lamb Sale Prices Decline
The fifth producer sponsored sale at Coos County Fairgrounds Myrtle Point on July 1 pooled 1400 lambs from 22 consignors. Feeder lambs and ewe lambs sold lower than prior sales though slaughter lambs held steady with last year's prices. Overall gross was $11,383.34 with average lambs at 11.4 cents per pound.

The Myrtle Point City Council adopted the upcoming fiscal year's budget with no changes from the Herald published version, increasing total costs by about 11 thousand dollars. The Southwestern Oregon Area Education District asks voters to approve a 1.137 mill operational levy covering one third of costs with state covering two thirds. A 1.723 mill capital levy funds building costs totaling 564 800 dollars with a 375 000 state grant. The plan expands vocational and day courses and allows the district to train students for two year technical and collegiate work before transferring to four year colleges.
