Pee-Wee baseballers begin league action next Tuesday at Myrtle Crest field with 5 p.m. twin games. On Friday June 20 uniforms arrive and two practice games start at 1:30 p.m. Basketball players across junior high and high school report to Myrtle Crest gym Monday at 7:30 p.m. Regular league play opens Thursday June 26.

The Herzogg saw mill at Broadbent, closed for a year, will reopen within weeks under Gaylord Gregory formerly of Toledo Oregon. He has leased the mill for an indefinite period with ample logs for year round operation employing 25 to 30 men. Gregory plans to move his family to Myrtle Point when a 3 bedroom rental is found. they are currently in Coquille.

Guerin Gift to Pioneer Exhibit at New North Bend Museum
Thomas D Guerin donated a pioneer relic collection now on display in a large glass case at the Coos Curry Museum in North Bend. Mrs James Maple, curator, announced the exhibit runs through June and July. The Guerin items and Le Vaughan Oaks engine attract growing visitor numbers, with over 2000 people in May.

New Bridge Bid Set for Gravel Ford Sitkum Road
The State Highway Commission in Salem called for bids to construct a 218 foot two span reinforced concrete bridge over the North Fork Coquille River replacing the Cooper bridge on the Gravel Ford Sitkum road. The project, funded by federal road funds, the state, and Coos County, will close the site during construction with an expected completion this fall. Wood trusses from the old bridge will be salvaged for county use.
