McCrae announces changes at Myrtle Point High School Frank Grove is athletic director replacing Marv Scherpt who resigns as AD Scherpff remains on staff as head baseball coach and football assistant Grove returns after illness to lead basketball and track Jack Reeves becomes head football coach and assists with basketball He led the 21 1 Sunset League champion basketball team last fall Reeves is a Pacific University graduate Muck takes head wrestling post a University of Oregon graduate He teaches PE and driver ed and wrestled four years at Oregon He was freshman wrestling coach last year Ordie Hoye named football basketball and track assistant Hoye comes from Sherman high Moro teaching PE and commercial subjects

Lions Hold White Elephant Sale and Tennis Court Dance

The Myrtle Point Lions Club hosts a White Elephant Sale Saturday morning June 26 at 11 o clock with the chamber of commerce Antique Car Show at Space and 7th streets. Junker cars donated by dealers headline items. costumes jewelry and other goods fill the mile high stack for charity. A public dance that evening in Rotary Park marks the tennis court dedication led by Rolland Leep as general chairman.

Donald Austin Receives Medical Degree at Oregon

Donald Austin son of Harold and Mrs. Austin of Myrtle Point was among 72 graduates to receive the MD at the University of Oregon Medical School commencement on Friday June 11 in the Medical School auditorium Principal address by Dr Branford P. Miller president of Portland State College Degrees conferred by Dr Arthur S. Flemming president of the University of Oregon to the graduates The class was presented by Dr D E K Baird dean of the Medical School. Roushs Coming Home Mr and Mrs Richard Roush depart Pago Pago June 21 and arrive here June 26 for a family reunion with V A and Mrs Roush and their son Bill Linda, born 14 months ago in Pago Pago, will meet for the first time wearing her first shoes purchased in Hawaii.

Elks Golf Banquet Honors Coquille Valley Winners

The Coquille Valley Elks Spring Handicap Golf Tournament awards were given at a Friday banquet with 70 attendees. Ken Parry won tourney champion, while Mrs Jack Sturza claimed ladies Spring Handicap, and Ross Pinkley took Memorial Day top honors.

Plans Set for Myrtle Point Jaycees Reorganization Meeting

A special reorganization meeting of the Myrtle Point Jaycees, led by George Sullivan from Brookings, is scheduled for next Wednesday June 23 at 8 30 p m at the Myrtle Point fire hall. The group promotes community service and youth involvement for men ages 21 to 35 with projects since 1957 including vaccine clinics auto seat belts centennial events dances and city trash can program.

Recreational Basketball Starts Monday In Myrtle Point

Recreation programs begin with basketball practice from 7 to 9 p m on Monday June 31 in Monte Crest gym under Chuck Hustle director. Open to all ages with city sponsorship. Baseball and Red Cross swimming lessons also announced with July dates and school district transport.

Patti Keizer Named Dairy Princess of Coos County

Patti Keizer was named Coos County Dairy Princess at a Timber Inn banquet in Coos Bay attended by over 100 dairy people and friends. Delores McCue was named alternate Princess. Keizer, daughter of Mrs. Don Adams, and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barklow, is a University of Oregon art major who plans to become an art teacher. She will return for Farmer's Day on June 5.

Drahn Appointed Coos County Juvenile Director

Judge James A. Norman announced the appointment of Theodore Drahn as Coos County Juvenile Director effective July 1. Drahn will work with Kenneth Carvall who becomes Special assistant to circuit court judges in child custody investigations. Drahn and his family will reside in Coquille after June arrival.

Rebecca Otter To Graduate From University Of Oregon

Rebecca Lynnn Otter daughter of Mr and Mrs Jake Otter of Myrtle will receive a Certificate in Dental Hygiene from the University of Oregon She is a Myrtle Point high school graduate class of 1968 and will attend further studies or employment in the field.

The Myrtle Point annual Antique Car Show is listed in the Historical Automobile Club of Oregon bulletin The Exhaust Valve. Members are invited to attend and display their cars in downtown Myrtle Point on June 3 with dozens more on display.
