William Chafford Mullap 57 dies from fractured skull and chest injuries after a rollover on the Coquille Bandon highway near Riverton. Funeral services set at Gano Funeral Home Coquille with interment in Odd Fellows cemetery. He worked as a carpenter and had resided in Coquille about two months previously from Etna California. Survived by three sisters and two brothers.

Early 1883 Mining Trip From Myrtle Point To Barklow Mountain
In October 1883 a group of men led by Bert and including John Barklow RM Marricdn George Penbrooke John Roberts Ben Harrison and a 15 year old narrator set out from Myrtle Point Oregon toward Johnson creek on Barklow mountain to mine for gold. They camped at Deer Park near Tim Greene’s ranch and discussed the Salmon mountain mine with tales of a Midaslike finder. the journey continued to Barklow with some quartz stringers and a possible rich dolomite vein, but the party dispersed and the writer remains the sole survivor to recount the trip years later.
