Coos County Health Department announces the suspension of all community immunization clinics until a Medical Health Officer is hired. Clinics canceled include the second Tuesday monthly clinic at the Health Department in Coquille and the third Tuesday monthly clinic at WA Hall in Coos Bay.
MPHS announced final grades with five students earning perfect grades and 32 on the honor roll for 3.5 or higher. Four students achieved 4.0: Carol Gassman Grace Cushing Patricia Nelson Delores Northup. Seniors on the honor roll include Evelyn Belanger Chuck Humble Phyllis Pillecte Gary Shephed John Meldrum Gail Knipke Ann Hathaway Sheryl Huntley Gail Johnson.
The First Methodist Church of Myrtle Point announces summer hours from June 18 to September 3 with services at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays and Church School Wednesdays 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. A church-wide picnic at Davenport Grove is planned this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Linda Waterman of Bridge Route Myrtle Point is selected for Orange "O" honor society at Oregon State University and is a sophomore in Education.
Obituary notice for Lawrence P Scotty Watson who died at Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital Medford on June 11 after a short illness. Services at 3:00 Thursday at L B Hall Funeral Home Grants Pass. Born December 29 1899 Pine Grove West Virginia. Survived by three brothers and a sister.
John Gassman son of Mr and Mrs William Gassman of Myrtle Point is discharged from the Amy on June 8 at Ft. Lewis Washington after completing a two year obligation He previously served 13 months in Korea in Communications Mast To Join Sth Division Staff Sgt Lawrence A Mast son of Mrs Lela Brooks of Norway is on a 30 day leave from Ft Riley Kansas before heading to Vietnam to join the 9th division in Co Chi about 350 miles north of Saigon The 1955 Myrtle Point High School graduate has served ten years in the service with overseas duty in Korea and France
The Coquille Valley Art Association adds two new artists to the board and announces scholarships for art education. Summer classes at the art center feature instructors from California and Oregon with registration open.
Leura Leemm of Powers county receives her bachelor science degree in education from OCE College. The annual commencement is held Friday in the OCE gymnasium in Monmouth with graduates and faculty present.
Sixty one Coos County 4-H members will attend the 4-H Summer School June 12 through 17 on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. Delegates include Arne Johnson Sumner and Walt Seals who will serve on the Summer School Council representing Coos County and live with about 1740 peers from across Oregon.
Rev Gerald Wight and family move from Beaverton to Ban don and Myrtle Point where he will preside as pastor of both churches. Installation scheduled Sunday June 25 at 1 15 pm in outdoor Camp Myrtlewood chapel. potluck dinner at 12 30 pm. Members urged to attend ceremony and dinner.
The Oregon State Highway Commission approved funding for a Coos County bridge on Catching Creek Road to be built with 1968 Federal-aid funds. The 250-foot structure will span the South Fork of the Coquille River area near Myrtle Point Broadbent, with a 32-foot right of way. The county will build approaches and the state will handle surveying. The former Broadbent Bridge collapsed in May 26 fatal truck crash prompting traffic rerouting until completion.
Kenneth Laird and Ivan Laird, partners in L B and L Logging of Siddcum, announce the sale of about 30 million feet of standing amber on Ken Rogge Co. in Bandon. The deal includes substantial logging and trucking equipment. The Lairds have over 30 years in logging and timber and will continue operating Beaver State Veneer in Myrtle Point.
Rev and Mrs Les Thompson and sons will guest sponsor and sing at Myrtle Point Baptist Church on Sunday June 18 with morning and evening services. Thompson works with Latin Youth Publications of the West Indies Mission. Mrs Thompson is Harold Backlund's daughter. Public invited to attend. Thompson recently coordinated pay Graham meetings in Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
A one week art course at Camp Arago Teson runs July 31 through August 5 led by Mrs. Maury Haseltine of Salt Lake. The program welcomes high school to adults of all skill levels with coastal sketching, pottery, and weaving focus exploration. Participants may attend as day students, part time, or reside in camp dormitories or with own gear. Lunches available on site. registration details follow.
