Myrtle Point residents may donate clean light weight clothing and blankets at the First Methodist Church Fifth and Maple through June 18 to aid refugees and disaster victims abroad. A 10 cent per pound contribution helps cover packing and port charges. A CWS trailer will collect items June 19 for sorting in Vancouver, Washington. For more details call 72-2138.

Former Police Chief Floyd Dies at 53 in Seattle
Funeral services set for June 9 at 2 00 p.m. in Myrtle Paint Funeral Home chapel for Lewis Alfred Floyd Sr. born February 14 1914 in Riverton who died June 3 in Seattle Washington aged 53. He served on the Myrtle Point police force over nine years and was chief for five years and was a Rotary VFW and NRA member. Survivors include wife Verloger Floyd Myrtle Point and children Richard Floyd Myrtle Point Lewis Alfred Floyd Jr. Porto Rico Raymond Floyd Viet Nam and others. Interment at Myrtle Crese Memorial Garden Coquille.

Myrtle Point announces a summer recreation program under Jerry Brodie starting June 12. Registration times are set for youth baseball ages 9 to 13 with Babe Ruth on June 12 and practices begin June 13. Swimming lessons start July 17 and life saving lessons on August 14 with transportation limited to the July 17 session.

Benjamin J Lachance USN son of Mrs Ben H Lachance of Myrtle Point returns to Alameda California with Navy Anti-submarine Fighter Squadron One after a nine month Mediterranean deployment aboard the attack carrier USS Shangri-la. The squadron trained in Jacksonville before joining NATO exercises and amphibious operations including Handclasp and People to People programs.

The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce announces the 4th annual Antiga Car Show in Myrtle Point. Invitations have been sent to over 300 antique car owners. The event features music by the Country Gentlemen starting at 11:00 a.m. with car display from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A hill climb on Spruce Street begins at 3:00 p.m. and the Lions Club white elephant sale takes place across from the Colony.
