Planning Commission last evening urged city council to pass a subdivision control ordinance requiring new subdividers to comply with state codes and provide water service with fire hydrants sewer service graded streets and at least a 20 foot wide well rocked surface. The discussion covered commercial zoning aims to keep shopping area centralized and parking adequate with off street spaces. City planner Richard Ivey from the University of Oregon proposed renewing business district parking by upgrading old buildings and will meet with the chamber of commerce to discuss blight remedies.
The Mobile X Ray unit will set up at the Myrtle Motel in Myrtle Point on Friday June 16 from 12 noon to 7 p.m. The free check detects TB and early lung conditions and is open to all residents over 21 and to accompany children with parental consent. The service is funded by the TB health association through Christmas Seals.
The State Department of Agriculture announced there will be no change in the price paid to dairymen for class 1 milk in this area. The rate remains $6.44 per hundredweight of 4% milk after June 16. The hearing occurred in Coos Bay on June 8, with the area designated No 2 covering Coos County and the western part of Douglas County.
Elmer McClure head of the Oregon State Grange praised the omnibus farm bill for commodity by commodity trading strength and market development. He criticized the 1961 Oregon legislature as childish and urged support for Bonneville Power and public power expansion. Delegates will consider more than 160 resolutions through Friday.

County court urges yes votes to fund road widening realignment heavier bases and a new bridge with funds for permanent public road system. Joe Roush of Myrtle Point visited this past weekend to garden, but plans to convert his garden to lawn before next fishing season opens. He and his wife keep a trailer at Loon Lake since opening day, reporting good fishing for trout bass and crappie with 12 to 14 inch trout common and occasional 18 inch specimens. Nearby Upper Rock Creek reports success switching from worms and spinners to Yellow Magic lures, catching 12 to 14 inch trout. Overall fishing was fair in the area despite poor almanac forecasts for moon phase.
The United Good Neighbor fund in Myrtle Point has raised 1261 75 dollars, 30 percent of its 3480 goal, with 430 from Georgia Pacific and 545 from GP employees totaling 975 from the firm. Don Waggoner reports the drive continues and more families and firms will be contacted soon.
The Myrtle Point Church of the Nazarene starts a week of evangelistic services on Sunday June 18 at 7 30 p m with Rev Lowell Ellis of Mt Scott Nazarene Portland as guest speaker. Local musicians will provide special music and the public is urged to attend. Services run each weekday at 7 30 p m except Saturday in the Seventh Day Adventist church on Maryland Avenue.
Albert Henry Powers, 61, a prominent local businessman and civic leader, died last Thursday in a Eugene hospital. A cattleman and lumberman, Powers helped found Powers town, organized regional groups, and served in state and local affairs. He was a past president of Western Livestock Association and chaired Oregon cattlemen activities. He lived in the Powers area with his wife and had ties to Coos Bay Myrtle Point and Bay areas.
All Scouters in the Coquille Valley district will gather at Myrtle Park City Park tonight at 1:00 for a round table meeting chaired by District Chairman Marryrer. The event invites participants to a Wiener roast and tea.
The board named Southwestern Oregon Community College and set a 9666 138 budget after rapid sessions. A June 26 hearing and a July 13 election are planned to meet state deadlines. The plan funds first year activity at Marshfield High School and includes a 362 649 levy at 3.6 mills.
Myrtle Point Ltd club installs Joe Avina as president succeeding Art Henry. LeRoy Robinson is first vice president and Charles Humble is vice president with Rudy Rechek as ard vice-president. Bill Knife becomes tail-twister with Tom Perking and Norman Burgess as treasurer and other posts filled.
