Robert C Belloni has been named case editor of the Oregon Law Review at the University of Oregon. The appointment was announced during a banquet honoring the graduating law class. Belloni will serve as senior aboard next year and is the son of Mrs John Belloni of Myrtle Point.
Fifty seven 4-H members from this county attend the 35th annual 4-H summer school in Corvallis this week. About 55 Coos county youths typically enroll yearly. Summer camp follows August 2 to 12 at Camp Myrtlewood near Bridge. Eligibility requires age 11 or older and solid 4-H work. Leaders' association misses meeting this month per Walter G Schroeder.
The Myrtle Point high school class of 1946 announces a reunion at Agness on the Rogue River with an informal porch dance on Saturday night June 24 and a swim potluck picnic Sunday afternoon. Mary Anne and Donna Lucas handle publicity and have contacted all reachable classmates. Those not notified are asked to write for information.
Congressman Harris Ellsworth announces Civil Service exams for appointments to U S Military and Naval academies. Exams set for Monday July 17 1956 at Albany Grants Pass Eugene Medford Roseburg Reedsport offices. Applicants must be unmarried residents of the Fourth district and meet age and residence rules. those in service may apply.
The First Presbyterian Church will present a special Father s Day program during the 11 o clock worship service. The choir will perform, and the message will be delivered by A. Theodore Smith. The public is invited.
A statewide poultry industry conference on the OSC campus runs June 28 through July 1 with daily sessions starting at 10 oclock. Joseph Taggart of Cleveland heads speakers from the industry as part of the Oregon Baby Chick association meeting. The Pullorum testing and flock selecting school is set for June 30 and July 1 to accompany the conference.
Myrtle Point and Bandon junior Legion baseball teams battled to a 1 to 1 tie in ten innings at Bandon before darkness ended the twilight game. Weber and Lindsay held the offenses in check, each allowing few hits, as the teams prepare for a rematch at the Myrtle Point fairgrounds next Saturday at 3 p.m.
O R election at Portland grand chapter session results show Mr. Schroeder winning the Grand Sentinel post by a sweeping majority. He is active in Eastern Star and Masonic work and serves as worthy patron of Elgin chapter. Mr. and Mrs Schroeder attend the session in Portland.
Jacob Lee Lakey 84 died June 13 at Mast hospital. Final rites were held June 15 at Schroeder's chapel, burial at Catching Creek cemetery. Born Weston Oregon, he lived in Myrtle Point 31 years. Survived by widow Lottle Montgomery Lakey, five sons Raymond Elvin Marion Donald Melvin, five daughters Effie Garnet Earl Bertha Rolla, one sister Lydia Lindsay, two brothers A L Lakey and Charles Lakey, 31 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Country Man a two year old gelding by Pharloch Kathryn Jane sped to a six length victory in the Oregon Futurity. Jockey Gus Dye rode the winner as the field challenged the sloppy track and settled into a clear lead. Time was 1 03 1-5 for five furlongs with Snow Flight second. The Powries plan to enter more horses at Long Acres and head to Seattle races next.
Superintendent G. B. Goddard reports remodeling progress on the high school grandstand, targetting completion by early August or mid August. The old stand has been moved and Ray Neugart and a four to five man crew will finish a project that will seat more than twice as many spectators.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club met at the Legion hall to appoint committees and conduct official business. A membership drive is organized under Frank Henry, Ray Collier and Henry Rowell with a deadline in August, followed by a barbecue and dance for members.
At Coos Bay two clubs coordinated a cleanup project at McKinley youth camp with painting chairs cutting timber and brush removal plus general maintenance. A picnic and ball game were planned to finish the day but bad weather postponed the event from June 1 with a new date unspecified. Henry Spargo leads the Coos Bay Active club project.
The Myrtle Point city council Monday approved the budget schedule from the budget committee. The budget will go to voters for approval or rejection at a July election, as published in the Myrtle Point Herald.
City crews repainted pie hydrants across town changing color from yellow to red while caps and plugs stay yellow. Officials say the first update in months improves street appearance and aids fire department efficiency.

Leadership begins the first week in July as plans move ahead for an installation ceremony under the 40-er group of the region.
