The European aid organization buys millions of feet of Douglas fir plywood logs for Korea, risking jobs in the Northwest plywood sector. Congress protests policy of aiding foreign plywood production while proposing tariff reductions.
In Myrtle Point Oregon 827 of 830 adults were tested for tuberculosis during a four day mobile unit visit June 14 15 18 17. Mrs H H Thomas says local cooperation was outstanding and a goal of 80 percent tested was nearly reached.

Mary Waters, a Myrtle Point student, drowned Monday evening while swimming in a river near the O C McWherter farm. Her body was recovered Tuesday morning after fire department coast guard and volunteers dragged the hole and searched until daylight. She is survived by her mother and step father, a sister, two brothers, and a half sister and half brother.
Myrtle Point council called a special election for Friday July 7 to submit to voters a proposal to exceed the 6 percent budget limit for the 1950 51 fiscal year. The move aims to cover higher labor and material costs with an additional 8 thousand dollars. A petition signed by 33 business houses asks July 3 be declared a holiday for a four day weekend around July 4. The council awaits county wide cooperation.
