A L Powrie of Myrtle Point bought eleven registered Jerseys from the Schultze and Schultse families of Canby Oregon. R B and Hazel Rylander of Myrtle Point purchased one registered Jersey, Rinda 81. Mawee Eagle Duke, from the Davenport herd in Myrtle Point. Transactions announced this week by the American Jersey Cattle Club based in Columbus Ohio which maintains nation wide Jersey records since 1868.

CIO IWA Strikers Demand Union Shop At Coos Bay Lumber

The CIO IWA picketers persisted Wednesday in Coos Bay Lumber Co with a demand for a full union shop. The company offers a union shop minus workers already on payroll while the Coquille mill operated by AFL remains on the job. Four truckloads of logs were escorted through picket lines by Sheriff William F Howell as independent operators supply cedars and peeler logs.

City Court Fines Paid for Various Offenses

Harold Fields paid 54.50 for assault and battery in municipal court last week. Chester Cook posted 2.50 bail for violation of the basic speed law. Ralph W West was fined 12.50 for failure to heed right of way regulations.

Goddard to Head Division of Superintendents at UO Meeting

G B Goddard principal of Union High school No 2 Myrtle Point will chair the division of superintendents at the annual school administrators conference at the University of Oregon July 10 14 Guy Shellbarger principal of Marshfield High school will chair the secondary principals group Appointments announced by Paul B Jacobson dean of the School of Education U of O The conference is attended each year by many school people from all parts of Oregon.

Ponca City evangelist Floyd Diehm will conduct two weeks of meetings at Myrtle Point Christian Church from June 11 to 25. Services start at 8 00 pm. Diehm tours the west with the Hahn sisters who will perform duets solos and lead evangelistic songs.

Moller's Grocery Moves To New Site In Schroeder Building

Moller's Grocery, among Myrtle Point's earliest businesses, relocated this week to a modern site in the Schroeder building behind Security Bank on Fifth Street. The move follows the Eller family ownership and Petersen in-law arrangements formed in 1987.

Grand Opening Saturday At Local Store

Following Mr Petersons death in 1937 Mr Moller now runs the store assisted by his daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Bill Downing. The shop has offered coffee and doughnuts for adults and balloons for younger guests during its open period.

County Schools Set June 19 Election for Rural Board Directors

County voters will elect Rural School board directors on June 19 with two zones voting. W K Davenport is listed as incumbent and chairman in one zone. Zones include Myrtle Point Fairview Riverside Powers Allegany Bridge Broadbent Coos River Dora Emika McKIney Remote Sitkum Aldercrest Catching Creek Sumner Eastside and 120 45C 49 districts. Mrs J R McMahon of Powers appears in zone A and Mrs Ida Linder is on the ballot in zone II.

Consolidation Vote Set For Districts 41 34

District 41C Myrtle Point and District 34 Catching Creek have agreed to consolidate and set a June 23 vote. Balloting occurs at Myrtle Point Junior High and Catching Creek Schoolhouse at 7:30 Pacific Standard Time. Catching Creek operates a one room school with 12 signed petitions. Myrtle Point has 63 bonified signers.

Ida Mae Murphy Dies In Roseburg Oregon

Ida Mae Murphy 75 of Bridge Oregon died in Roseburg June 3 funeral held June 4 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Roses with burial at Portland Crematorium. Born in Cincinnati Ohio she came to the county in 1912 and co owned Murphy General Store at Bridge. Survivors include daughter Mrs Helen M Rice and brothers E Hornung Judlow Ky.

Fawn Found Suffering From Bottle Feeding Inside City Lot

A baby fawn unable to walk was found in a city lot and is being cared for with bottled formula. Officials report the young deer relies on formula as caretakers monitor its condition.

Cattle Herds Reported in Annual Test Season

Thirty-eight herds totaling 1886 cattle completed the testing year under the standard plan. The report notes an average production and fat content per cow, with several high herds including both registered and grade milking shorthorn cattle. Continued on Page 1.

Misses Lininger and Wolff Sail to Germany for Brethren Work

Miss Geraldine Lininger and Miss Bether Wolff, instructors at Myrtle Point schools, depart Friday by train to New York then fly to Germany for rehabilitation and reconstruction camp work. They will attend the Church of the Brethren National Conference in Grand Rapids and return home after tours in Germany.
