Myrtle Point High aims 30 year forestry program lease

Assistant Superintendent Jimmie King reports Myrtle Point High School will launch a long term forestry project. The district enters a 30 year lease with the city for property near the reserve and a 10 year lease for land held by Russell Train. Students will clear and thin land, build facilities, and study land lab tech while many secure summer work with the U S Forest Service or Coos Forest Protective Association.

The Key Bicentennial meeting for Myrtle Point will be held in the high school library at 7 30 p m. Chairman Bud Bick invites anyone interested in the celebration to attend. Discussion will cover a federal grant plan for a logging museum and possible restoration of the Hermann House in Broadbent along with decisions on Myrtle Point’s tickoff of the centennial celebration.

Budget vote set for Myrtle Point schools June 17

The Myrtle Point School District 41 proposes a 1975-76 operating levy exceeding the six percent limit by 1 015 717.56. Voters will cast ballots Tuesday June 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Myrtle Crest Arago Bridge Broad Bend Dora polling places. The 1976-76 tax levy would be 1 220 349.94 compared with 1 009 436 this year.

Zoning law defeat in Myrtle Point vote

A special referendum by Myrtle Point residents rejected a newly adopted zoning ordinance allowing double wide mobile homes in residential areas under conditional use permits. Turnout was low with 121 no votes to 110 yes votes. Daily Vacation Bible School runs June 16 20 at Ridge Community Church for kindergartners through eighth grade. Bridge Community Church hosts a Father’s Day potluck dinner and crafts fair on Sunday with attendees asked to bring a dish.
