On Sunday morning June 5 the Eden area lumber mill at Eden Ridge burned completely. Local observers report the fire started at dawn behind the SP tracks and crews fought the blaze for hours. Fire officials say there were no injuries and investigators will determine a cause.
The largest crowd in the school’s history attended Myrtle Point High School graduation Thursday with 87 graduates marching in. Dr Jones was praised for leadership and educational impact as he urged graduates to become leaders in America’s economic future.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's Club will hold its last meeting until fall on Monday June 13 at 8:00 p m. Bud Thompson will present hunting pictures from Alaska and Canada. Members are urged to attend bring a friend and enjoy refreshments following the show.
The Myrtle Point Lions Club installed new officers at the Anglers cafe last Wednesday with Past President Frank Meldrum officiating. New officers include Art Henry as president, Joe Avina Leroy Robinson and Chuck Humble as vice presidents, Tom Perkins as secretary Chase Pochlitz as treasurer Rudy Rochek as lion tamer Gordon Mackerrow as tail twister and Bill Knife Jake Otter Ross Pinkley and Bob Hogan as directors. President Daniels passed the gavel to the new president and praised the club's support during the past year. The club also issued a golf challenge to the Coquille Lions for a tournament at Elks Coquille Valley on June 16.
The Spring Golf Handicap tour at Elks Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club starts with 18 hole matches this week. Ray Whiteside names 33 entrants with pairings and handicaps listed. final scores due in the clubhouse pro shop.

Mary Ellen Davenport 17 of Myrtle Point won Coos County Dairy Princess at a tea in Coquille Grange hall. She will compete for the Oregon State Dairy Princess at Gearhart on June 17 and 18. Davenport was one of five finalists and earned a $25 savings bond and a trophy from the Coos County Farm Bureau presented by Robert Detlefsen.
The Coos County Livestock Association schedules its annual tour on June 12 in Douglas County. A bus will transport all members from Myrtle Crest School Myrtle Point at 9 30 a m returning about 6 30 p m. Attendees are urged to join and bring their own sack lunch.
A large fire destroyed the mill and planer facilities covering 150000 feet of lumber with an estimated loss of 250000 dollars. Fire cause is unknown and rebuilding plans are under consideration at a cost around 138076.75 dollars.
Voters in the unified district R-41 will decide on the special levy for the budget on Thursday June 16 from 2 to 8 p m. Voting locations will be in each district school building with Myrtle Point area voting at Myrtle Crest school. The budget primarily funds salaries for teachers and is based on a schedule to attract and retain staff.
Myrtle Point council approves summer water rates starting June 1 with a special low block for 700 cubic feet for garden use. The park and recreation committee gains permission to build a tennis court at the park. Budget hearing set for July 5 1960. budget nearly unchanged with a $3 000 increase in the tax levy.
The new Christian church was dedicated last Sunday with two services at 11 o clock. Reveauup Wolfe of Dallas Oregon delivered the sermon on The Mystery of God s Purposes. Special music featured a church choir and a ladies trio. Five new members were baptized. Flowers were sent by local churches and businesses.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce supported the proposed District R-41 budgets after an explanatory talk by Superintendent Itr. On motion by Wallace Dement, the vote was unanimous urging voters to approve the election.
