Pacific Power to ship Eden Ridge coal for lab tests

Pacific Power and Light moves 60 tons of Eden Ridge coal from Coos county to Powers for research laboratory tests. E de Luceria says the next 60-ton sample, from the Anderson seam, will aid studies to optimize fuel use and inform southwest Oregon coal development. The coal is removed by D C Toye & Co. crews and hauled 25 miles.

Masons' 11th Annual Communication Meet at Eugene

Masons plan the 11th annual communication at Eugene June 15 to 17 with about 400 grand lodge and lodge officers from Oregon and neighboring states. Grand Master David W. Pearson of Portland will preside, sessions at South Eugene High School gymnasium, banquet at the Eugene hotel, and an open meeting in the high school auditorium with Lloyd E. Wilson as speaker.

Dedication Services Set For New Christian Church

The dedication of the new Christian church occurs this Sunday with an 11 o clock morning service featuring guest speaker West Phillips and a 3 o clock afternoon service led by Dr Earl Van Doren of Seattle. Music by a ladies trio and greetings from local ministers accompany the events. Refreshments follow in the fellowship hall.

John Arnold Wins Springfield Country Club Spring Handicap

John Arnold of Springfield Oregon and formerly of Myrtle Point captured the championship in the Springfield Country club spring handicap golf tournament. Bill O Neal, a former Coos county golfer, was runner up in the championship flight. Arnold defeated O Neal two down with one to play in a finals match.

Local Methodist Vacation Bible School Set for June Dates

The Methodist church announces a vacation Bible school from June 13 to June 17 for youths five years old and up. Classes run each morning 9 00 to 11 30, with the organizing committee led by Mrs Eldon Zinn Mrs Ray Harris Jr Mrs Ronald Ogelsby and Mrs Earl Hoxsell.

Coos county and Oregon state health boards schedule two day screening for ages two to five this summer. Audiometrists will test for hearing loss with confirmed appointments in Coquille and Coos Bay, call before June 14 for slots. Crowd of 400plus Attends Myrtle Point High Baccalaureate

A baccalaureate service at Myrtle Point High School drew an estimated crowd over 400. 87 graduates marched to their seats in the cafeteria auditorium as Rev. Edwin Hepner preached from Mark 10 17 22 urging youth to take Christ as partner.
