OSU to Grant Degrees As Largest Class in History
Nearly 2,500 Oregon State University graduates will receive degrees Sunday June 4 at the Coliseum in the 98th annual ceremony. About 1,820 bachelor’s, 575 master’s, 95 doctorates and 4 professional engineering degrees are awarded. ROTC graduates will be commissioned as officers. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. with an anticipated crowd of 10,000.

The Myrtle Point area will host a Church World Service Clothing Appeal on June 18 with collection sites at six churches and pickup June 19 at the Methodist church. Contributed garments must be clean and six months worn. County Truck Plunges Through Broadbent Bridge Killing Driver
Vance Deckmar Nelson 31 of Coquille died Friday when the Broadbent Bridge on the south fork of the Coquille River failed under his loaded 10 yard gravel dump truck. An employee of the Coos County road department for four years, he was returning from Norway when the bridge collapsed. Rescue teams freed him from the overturned vehicle as traffic was rerouted and funds sought for a replacement bridge. Nelson is survived by his wife Shirley and four children.
