Poison from range plants blamed for horse deaths at Warm Springs

About 30 horses died on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation during May 11 12 after being corralled for roundup. Dr R A Bennett Jr of Oregon Department of Agriculture found evidence pointing to poisoning rather than disease. Most affected were mares that grazed first forage after release. 2,500 horses roam the range and untraveled animals stayed healthy.

Spring chinook on the move in Rogue and Umpqua rivers

Spring chinook are advancing through fish ladders on the Rogue and Umpqua with strong early counts. Upper Umpqua totals exceed 2000 by May 18, while fishing pressure on the Umpqua remains light due to low flows and warm water. Additionally the winter steelhead run is higher than last year, and summer steelhead arrivals at Winchester look solid, as anglers report improving catches amid improving river conditions. MR and MRS JACK COLE and family plan a June 36 trip to Roseau Minnesota to visit Frank Cole in hospital.
