Rock crushing begins for Tri City road project near Myrtle Creek Oregon
The Tri City Bedy Mix of Myrtle Creek Oregon moves equipment and begins rock crushing for a project 30 miles south of Powers. A road contractor plans easier, safer access. Starting June 1968 a one dollar campground fee applies to most, waivers for Golden Eagle holders. The fee funds Land and Water Conservation for future campgrounds and forest recreation improvements.

Work Projects Begin As Summer Crews Start At Local Schools
Work crews began at 7:00 a.m. Monday on several projects after school closed. Bud Meader pre fabricated roof trusses for Broadbent reservoir, while Ray Henshaw's paint crew completed ceilings at Spruce and Maple schools and near teacherage at Bridge. Bids for Myrtle Crest and Maple school exteriors set for June 12. Maintenance teams fix water lines, floors, roofs and wells with NYC student helpers including three girls under Mrs. Metzger washing woodwork. A spate of broken windows raises taxpayer costs. residents urged to report vandalism. Coos Curry Electric announced a power interruption Friday June 7 from 9:00 a.m. to noon affecting multiple area residences for Norway Sub-station maintenance.

On May 29 1968 Myrtle Crest Junior High held its graduation for 111 students directed by Mr Tom Houston with Rev Herbert Butt giving the invocation. Principal Paul Fransen welcomed the attendees as Steve Engstrom Robin Brewster Cindy Tams and Lynn Miller spoke with the eighth grade chorus performing The Sound of Music and solos by Ernie Vas Vinca and Ron Hargis. Diploma presentations were given by school board director Mr Gerald Lillie.

Murals and Bell Dedicated at Camp Little River
Mrs. George Hoffman donated two murals to the Christian Church Camp Little River near Glide during a Saturday dedication service attended by over 70 people from southwestern Oregon. The murals honor her mother Mrs. Frank Southmaya and were hung in Memorial Hall as memorial gifts to the church.

City Council Sets 1968 69 Budget and Plans Pool and Zoning Changes
City Council met June 8 1968 at 7330 p m and instructed the City Attorney to prepare amendments for permanent residences if owners purchase property and meet building sanitary electrical and zoning codes. The 1968-69 budget of 306 364 includes a tax levy of 87 079 with 11 200 outside the 6 percent limit approved 424 to 308 on May 28 1968. The extra 11 200 helps share traffic signal costs. City manager reported contacting the State Highway Department about estimates for an open and a covered pool and to report at the next meeting.
