Herald reports officials of House wives For 42 say the State Highway Commission will tour Highway 42 on June 17 with a breakfast in Coquille. If commissioners accept the invitation, an official announcement will appear next week. Community unity and needed improvements on the state’s neglected road are highlighted.
Jesse Floyd Hayes 61 of Myrtle Point was killed when his car hit a slick spot and plunged into a ravine on Highway 42 Sunday afternoon. His wife Fern was injured. Hayes farmed at Gaylord before moving to Myrtle Point last year. Funeral services were set for Wednesday at 2 pm at the First Christian church with Cris Doty officiating.
The Myrtle Point City Council unanimously chose Rolland Leep of Leep Logging Co to fill the seat left by Ernest Bryant who recently resigned. Leep's term ends December 31 1958. The council also passed an ordinance on trailer houses and discussed capping all parking meters on Saturdays to ease shopping. A motion to trade in 100 meters for Miller-60 units was approved for consideration.
Lions club skating rink committee says the rink may continue Sunday afternoon hours through summer if public demand rises. If skaters show little interest, the rink will close. Skating parties can be arranged by contacting the committee.
