O. S. extension specialist R. Jackman notes Sudan grass could fill hay and pasture gaps in western Oregon after rains delayed other crops. Planting around June 15, Sudan grass provides green feed in hot dry months and can be made into hay, though paler and slower to cure than legume hay. It is less used for silage but offers feed comparable to rye and oats, with most acreage used for pasture.
