Residents weigh forming a district water company versus city delivery. Officials say a half built main could be completed when the pipe reaches the city, with construction costs and security water priced by the district or paid to the city. Maintenance and rent collection would fall to district members, with decision pending.
Coos H Club members from Myrtle Point and nearby areas will attend the summer school in Corvallis, announced by the county agent. The top scoring club member receives the Grange pencler title. other attendees include Louise Southmaya Phyl lis ieee Alice May Miller and Ann Robinneen from Fairview.
Fire Chief Evans announced on June 15 that starting Tuesday a written permit from him is needed to burn trash within city limits. Previously an oral permit sufficed, but rising fire hazards mandate written permits. Incinerators must be inspected by the city fire department to be used without a permit.
Leoni Grace Hughes Allen aged 81 a Coos county resident for 38 years was buried Wednesday June 9 at 2 30 pm from Schroeder Chapel with Rev Marion Sterns officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Point Cemetery. She died at Mast Hospital after a short illness born in Ohio on August 16 1866. She is survived by two brothers George F of Myrtle Point and Elmo F Hughes of Santa Cruz California and two sisters Mrs Hughes of Myrtle Point and Mrs W Murphy Powers Oregon.
Bert Moore and Walter Scott, timber company employees, were injured last Friday in a Sitkum camp accident when a tree fell on them. Moore suffers a compound fracture of the right arm and a fracture of the upper left leg and was transported to the local hospital by ambulance.
The Legion Auxiliary in Portland calls for Vanport relief as Mrs. Porter reports a box is being prepared for immediate shipment this week. Residents able to help are urged to contact Auxiliary members to donate and assist in distributing aid from 412 W. 4th Street.
Announcement this week that Spruce Shop was sold by Peg Carstens to Leona Peterson of Coos Bay. Shop closed this week and will reopen Monday June 14 with a new line of mock. Peterson spent part of the week in Portland buying stock for the reopening and plans to move to Myrtle Point once living quarters are obtained.
A mobile X Ray unit will be at the American Legion hall Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Women are asked to wear two piece outfits for examinations. Mrs. Lemsnowsky and other workers will assist with the screenings.
Merit awards cited for outstanding service to the community and merchandising ability. Mrs Wilberger repeats a 1947 citation from the International Association of Rexall clubs and Rexall Drug Company. Perkins Drug Store notes it represents about 10 000 independent Rexall pharmacists nationwide. Verne Barklow and wife visit Redmond relatives.
Fire Chief Marlin Evans returned early this week from Baker Oregon where he attended the annual school and conference of the Oregon Association of Fire Chiefs and the Oregon State Fire Fighters Association held June 3 4 and 5. Over 200 registered despite flood conditions that kept some from Ler Columbia area from attending. Attending from Coos County were firemen from the Cogalu department Chief Boyton and his wife from North Bend Chief Payne of Coca Bay. The three day meeting featured lectures demonstrations and reports by notable fire officials including George J Richardson and W Stevens. Evans described waterlogged delays en route due to flooding in the Columbia Gorge and The Dalles mud and high water. He traveled by train and recalled delays touring Portland and Baker city amid flood conditions.
A committee is to contact builders to erect the livestock buildings soon. Work on the new livestock pavilion is planned to start in about two weeks. Concession space in the commercial building will rise from 3.00 to 5.00 dollars per front foot this year, according to fair board officials.
Officials of Myrtle Point Post No 2928 V F W held a special meeting on June 14 and voted to send 100 dollars to the Vanport Flood Relief Fund in Portland. Proceeds from poppy sales locally totaled about a thousand, with officials stating more could have been raised if more were available and praising how buyers received the effort.
Mr and Mrs Dean Jones of Klamath Falls were slightly injured when their car hit a truck driven by Johnny Stenre near Powers Junction. Ray Emery riding in the truck with Stenre suffered injuries to his teeth. All were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Funeral services were held Monday morning in Myrtle Point for V. E. Beeson who died Friday near Norway on the McKinley Route at age 80. Beeson, born February 15 1860 in Ipswich South Dakota, is survived by his widow Julia a brother George Besson of Los Angeles California and a sister Mrs Biry Menkind of Los Angeles. The body was shipped to Eugene for cremation.
