In Oregon last Friday voters opposed most tax increase proposals, including a $125,000 Coos County library unit and a constitutional amendment to raise legislators pay. Kennedy defeated Morse for the Democratic presidential nomination in Coos County, with Kennedy winning 3,889 to Morse 3,992 locally, boosting Kennedy's delegate prospect. Nixon ran as well in the race.
Myrtle Point Garden Club announces its 2nd annual Flower Show set for June 17 to 19 in the Haga Building at Sixth and Spruce Streets. Mrs Cloyd Huntles serves as general chairman with a large team coordinating education entries hospitality junior division and publicity. The 1960 theme is Through the Garden Gate with displays of flowers thriving in the area and entry details forthcoming.
Ray M Shaffar reports the Powers Chamber of Commerce has a new headquarters in the Don Wim ple Insurance and Realty building. Don Wim ple uses his office to handle tourist traffic for the chamber, with a roadside sign directing strangers to the chamber office for information.

Myrtle Point High plans commencement for 87 seniors on June 2 with baccalaureate May 29. The district also votes to exceed tax limits for a 1960-61 budget, seeking $407 536 beyond the present base of $83 288.89.
The Bergen Lions Club elected officers for the coming year at a meeting on Wednesday evening. Joe Avina was named 1st vice president, with Lerox Robinson and Chuck Humble as 2nd and 3rd vice presidents. Chas Poehlitz was treasurer, Gordon MacKerrow secretary, Rudy Roadick was tail-twirler, and new board members Ball Knife Bob Hogan Jake Otter and Ross Pinko were appointed. Miss Sissie Skauge of Bergen Norway received a gift from the club as an international exchange student.
Voters in the newly organized school district rejected the proposed tax base of $527 690 by a large margin. Officials noted confusion over the measure and scheduled another election to empower the board to set the necessary expenditures for district expenses.
Teenagers from Myrtle Point and Powers area may test driving skill at the annual Jaycees Safe Driving Road E O. The event, at Myrtle Crest School, offers prizes including a plaque for top contestant and tennis rackets for first place in boys and girls divisions.
Several golfers men women boys and girls attended the first golf clinic at Feld course Sunday afternoon at 2 o clock led by Ray Whiteside pro golfer. The lesson focused on stance and using the No 1 driver for distance while addressing slices and hooks. Next Sunday Mr Whiteside will continue on back page.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars will sponsor a poppy sale on Myrtle Point streets this Friday and Saturday with Anita Reed as chairman. The poppies are made by disabled veterans and all funds go to assist these veterans and their families.
A combined Myrtle Crest and Myrtle Point High School band program will perform at Myrtle Crest gym on Thursday May 26 at 6:00 PM. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Miss Linda Carolyn Brown, top four in a class of 87 with 3.871 GPA, wins Georgia-Pacific Foundation scholarship to attend university. She was Myrtle Point Union High editor, yearbook editor, and president of the International Relations club with strong activity in Girls' League.
