A Chicago eye specialist develops non breakable eyeglass lenses through a secret process. The lenses look and correct vision like ordinary glasses but resist injury from flying slivers. Popular Mechanics notes safety glass for autos sparked the research. the lenses may withstand hammering or dropping from great heights.
Mrs Tuty Penrod, who lost her equipment in an April blaze at the old Perkins drug store building, opens a new up to date beauty parlor in the W Lee Ray property on Maple Street near the round church. She has installed vast new equipment and repainted interiors. She has four years of beauty culture work in the city and invites patrons to inspect the shop after attending recent demonstrations in Portland.
Evangelist Dr Holzer conducts an interdenominational evangelistic conference in Coquille from June 3 to 19 at 745 pm nightly except Saturdays with morning sessions at 9 00 am. He will speak on topics including The Wandering Jew and The Second Coming of Christ in its Relation to the Church the Jew and the Nations. The event also features a radio program on KOOS at 1 30 pm Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays.
Oregon farmers may benefit from new United States hay grades for alfalfa and mixtures. Portland will host terminal grading while Klamath Falls and Hermiston regions get shipping point inspection. Early cutting, proper color and leafiness define high grade hay and premium price potential.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars held a May 27 meeting led by Department Quartermaster Cicero Hogan with Comrade Miller of Portland. Forest rangers will install 4632 new metal information and direction signs in 22 national forests Cre ton and Washington this June. An additional 8700 distance and direction signs will be posted to aid travel and safety. Sign posting is a key annual duty to support miles of new trails and the administration of national forests, the US forest service says.

The Bank of Myrtle Point merges with the Security Bank creating a single institution in Myrtle Point. Resources exceed half a million dollars with officers remaining: Dement, Perkins, Kaufman, and Dement at the merged bank. Radabaugh, Clinton, Kring previously served at Myrtle Point. A. A. Schramm aided state banking officials in finalizing the consolidation.
