Pioneer Work of Woman's Club Highlighted at Myrtle Point Meet

The seventh annual Pioneer Meeting of the Woman's Club was held Monday at the Presbyterian church parlors in Myrtle Point. Mrs Grace La Flamine presided with officers including Mrs Evo Hardwood treasurer and Mrs A M Sunstrup secretary. The program featured musical selections, monologue, chalk talks, and gifts from local women. the event honored long-standing pioneer women and included readings about ancestry and a 100 year old family tale.

Norway Sluggers Open Class B Baseball With Close Win

The Class B league opener Sunday had the Norway Sluggers edge Lee 9 to 8 on Lee’s diamond. Curry pitched well for Norway, holding Lee to few hits after the first two innings as Norway tied it late and won in extra time. The six team league includes Norway, Jaelford, Broadbent, McKinley, and Lee, with a planned Myrtle Point squad. a meeting Wednesday will decide the sixth club.

Budget For School District 41 Presented For Approval

The budget committee of School District No 41 met last Saturday May 21 with chairman F Schroeder and members A A Echriefer A Chase Motte Ho Rosslow GL MecKay W W Deyve and Mrs Will Lundy. The budget as presented was adopted for submission to the annual school meeting on the third Monday in June. Taxes can be reduced 22 mill and the budget shows a 22 percent saving on the special tax over last year after regular bonded indebtedness and $2 500 warrant indebtedness have been paid.

Camp Fire Girls met at 9 30 Monday in their club rooms to make boutonnieres for pioneers honored at the Woman's club meeting in the church. Next Wednesday they will devote the meeting to scrapbooks for crippled hospital children, with plans to camp hike and swim over the summer while some members travel.

Henry Hermann suffered a serious accident at his blacksmith shop this week when he reached over to fit a belt on a pulley by hand instead of his usual stick method. He sustained a severe arm injury but the shop remained intact and work continued at a reduced pace.

Popular Minister Resigns to Lead Medford Church

Rev Henry Carver pastor of the Assembly of God in Myrtle Point has resigned effective immediately. He will deliver a farewell sermon May 28 and move with his wife and daughters Janet and Helen to Medford to lead a Full Gospel church. The Carvers are native to Coos County and are recuperating after a recent abdominal operation.
