Red Cross Blood Mobile To Visit Myrtle Point July 31
For the second time this year the Red Cross Blood mobile returns to Myrtle Crest Gym July 31 from 3 to 7 p.m. Curt Beckham, local chairman, urges donors aged 18 to 59 in good health to donate. 75 units are targeted. 12 units go to Harvie McCaffree’s recent surgery. Consent forms for under 21 are available from Beckham or the Herald office this week.

Young Myrtle Point boy saves mother from river rip current
Steven Crosby, 12, son of Mr and Mrs Marvin Crosby of Myrtle Point, saved his mother Mrs Crosby from drowning July 18 in the Little Deschutes River near La Pine. The rescue occurred as she was swept downstream after going under multiple times. Witnesses Tom Russell and Mrs Kate Russell saw the event near Christmas Valley.

Deputies broke up a late night party in Laver Park and cited eight Myrtle Point youths for minors in possession of intoxicants. Bail set at 80 dollars each. several pled guilty or not guilty with trial dates in August.

Furman Graveside Services Held
Graveside services for Souls Furman were held Friday July 21 at the Nor way Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Furman 92, born August 22, 1874 in Poland, came to the United States at 19 and resided in the Chicago area before moving here in 1920. Survivors include two sons, Stanley and Frank, daughters Helen Rookard, Ann Dodson, and Katie Case, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Soldier awarded Purple Heart to Springfield widow
Mrs Sonya Miller of Springfield received the Purple Heart with certificate on June 21 for wounds of Spec 4 Donald G Miller who died from his injuries in Vietnam in 1967. Also there was a Bronze Star Medal with citation. Major Vea Da Hoek presented the awards at Eugene telesector. The Miller family is from Myrtle Point with kinship to Mr and Mrs Ike Miller.

Du Pont training cut reformatory time aims for nationwide use
Garland Wollard states the Du Pont program at Bee Burg Reformatory boosts inmate work skills. Welders can finish in four months and auto mechanics in six, far shorter than prior durations. About 70 inmates completed 177 courses with final exam averages near 90 percent, and 25 of 40 surveyed inmates secured work release placements.

Possible Ice Age From Air Pollution Warning
