Public Works records show 6 029 000 gallons water processed and 1 400 000 gallons sewage treated. Personnel logged 205 man hours across street sweeping, flushing, hydrant repair, and plant work. Police notes include 11 traffic citations, 3 warnings, 6 parking tickets, 44 complaints, 38 vandalism cases, and 2 missing persons. Revenue and fees noted: water and sewer services 2386 04, fines 47 90, building permits 400, miscellaneous 10 75.
About 300 Myrtle Point High School alumni gathered at Rotary Park for the annual picnic last Sunday. Officers were elected with Howe as president and Wallace Dement as vice president. other officers include Helen Schroeder secretary and Opal Davis treasurer. Aged classmates from the Golden Anniversary class of 1917 attended, and gifts were exchanged among attendees including a Myrtlewood gift for all.
The Coos Market Association announced calf and sheep pool results with prices ranging around 22.28 per head for lambs and 24 000 per hundred for lambs and feeder stock averages. The event highlighted pools planned to boost marketing and included remarks from Monte Turd and Myrtle Point rancher My le Point. Special guests at a related alumni picnic included former teachers and the 1967 MPHS graduate Mickey Roper.
Five Myrtle Point High School students accompanied by Mr and Mrs Gat Smith will travel by bus to Ashland August 1 to 3 for the Shakespearean Festival. They will depart the high school at 1200 p.m. August 1 and stay at Southern Oregon College. Funding comes from a government subsidy with a small student fee.
Carter Dayton, a pilot with 24 years of U S Air Force service, retired at Beale Air Force Base California. He logged 7200 accident free flying hours and held a Boeing TOT and 720 rating. He served in Turkey Greece and other locations with his wife residing in Yuba City California.
Farrell Thornton Rankin 67, president of the Coos-Curry Electrical Co op, died July 17 in Myrtle Point. Born October 12, 1914 in Buckeye Arizona, he moved to the area in 1941 and became president last year after service on the board. He was active in the United Brethren Church Catching Creek Livestock Association Coos County Planning Commission and was survived by his wife Calea two brothers and a sister. Services were set for July 20 at Myrtle Point Chapel with burial at Catching Creek Cemetery.
All healthy individuals aged 18 to 59 with normal blood are urged to donate at the Bloodmobile in Myrtle Point. The drive runs Monday July 31 at Myrtle Crest Gym from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, led by Curt Beckham, local Bloodmobile chairman.
The Powers Market and Variety Store, run by Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rolfe, was robbed Sunday night. Thieves took about $200 in change and some stock, damaged siding to gain entry, and used a small hole likely only reachable by small individuals. Police are investigating.
All Coos County livestockmen are invited to the Coos County Livestock Association picnic at Bullards State Park on Sunday July 30. Chairman Charles King of Myrtle Point says families should bring a hot or cold dish and a dessert. Coffee and barbecued hamburgers will be provided by the association led by Monte Lund.
SWOCC releases spring term honor roll with 107 students including Kim Fain of Myrtle Point and Laura Waldren of Powers. Dean's Honor Roll lists Rosetta Hurst Barbara Brister Michael Johnson Jack G Thomas and Linda Warner Countryman.
Tom Coffman was selected chairman of the District 41 school board at a July meeting in the district administration office with Hollis Mast as vice chair. Coffman had just been sworn in after being elected May 1 to fill the remaining four years of the term. Glenn Gulstram was sworn in for the final year of the prior term. The board discussed adding names to a waiting list for student admissions and planned theater visits including Richard III and The Taming of the Shrew with preplay tours.
Radioman First Class Omer L Badger USN son of Mrs David E Pinkerton of Myrtle Point arrived in Vietnam July 7 to serve with the US Naval Support Activity Saigon. The command provides logistic and administrative support for Navy Forces in three of the four Corps areas.
Word was received here of the death of Robert Ladd a former resident of Jerome Arizona on Saturday morning July 15 from lung cancer. Services were held July 18 in Jerome Arizona. Survived by wife June Murphy Ladd and twin brother William Add of Arcata California.
At the July 17 meeting the council discussed buying two 3 color traffic signals but could not finance them yet and asked the city manager to contact the State Highway Department about financing over years. The body also reviewed dangerous structures and directed letters to two owners seeking repair or razing, plus paving permission for Jim Adamek at his own cost on Willow Street if specifications are met.
The Oregon State Highway Commission will accept bids on July 27 in Salem for 12 projects totaling about 372 000 with two Coos County tasks. Coquille River Drawbridge at Coquille Bandon Highway in Bandon and Bullards Bridge over the Coquille River on the Oregon Coast Highway near Bandon require cleaning and painting of all structural steel with 110 calendar days to complete.
Services are pending for Louis Furman who died July 18 in Myrtle Point. He resided on Stover Lane.
