Fifty Two Donate Blood at Myrtle Point Bloodmobile
Hart reports 59 donors attended the July 310 Bloodmobile at Myrtle Point. Seven were deferred and 18 donation by Mrs Darrell Brodie marked her 5th gallon. Nineteen units supported Harvie McCaffree for surgeries, with other gifts including 4 for Thor Jamsgard 8 for Mrs Dem Stevens and 7 for Ernest Krewson. The turnout exceeded January's 45 units but fell short of the 75 unit quota.

Private Alfred F Plaep Jr 19 completed nine weeks of advanced infantry training at Fort Polk on July 28. His final week covered guerrilla warfare with five days living under simulated Vietnam conditions, learning to remove booby traps set ambushes and raid enemy villages. Training also included small unit tactics map reading land mine warfare communications and firing the M 14 rifle M 60 machine gun and 3 5 inch rocket launcher.

Engineman Fireman Apprentice John A. Mattes USN, son of Mr and Mrs John M Mattes Jr of Arago Route, serves at Adak Island Alaska with the US Naval Base there. Adak hosts the Naval Station and Naval Communications Station along with Marine and Coast Guard detachments. Coos County agents and researchers released about 100000 cinnabar moth larvae in Coos County to attack the toxic weed Tansy Ragwort. Summer Religion School Opens August 7

Logger's Shodeo Adds Coosepee Feat and New Contests
Beginning at 7 30 p m Friday August 18 the Logger's Shodeo debuts a new contest at the Coosepee Fee with a 100 976 cash prize for the main event. Contestants must live or work in Coos or Curry County and enter by contacting Jim Churchill or other committee members in Coquille.
