In Coos county 43 precincts reported as statewide voters heavily favored repeal of the prohibition amendment and the state sales tax were rejected while a power bond issue failed. The dairy areas also opposed the earmarking tax. no special session was announced to raise state income.

Work approved by county court will open a scenic route via Coos river Millicoma Glenn creek to Gold and Silver Falls and connect with existing roads toward Scottsburg and Reedsport for a looped trip.
A noting error corrected the Ohio Quartet appearance from August 1 to August 2. The Bradford, Ohio based singers will give a recital at 8 p.m. and are urged not to miss this popular group touring the section.
A certificate recital at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music was held at Mrs. Merwin Moller’s home. Lunch with wafers and punch followed. Elementary certificates went to Anita Tedsen and Gladys Detlefsen, intermediate to Aileensborne, scale prizes to Eva Van Fossen, Anita Tedsen, Gladys Detlefen, and Aileen Osborne. Detliesen, now in Junction City, could not attend.
A consignment of 80 Mongolian pheasants arrived from the state game farm and were placed in holding pens until they are strong enough for liberation. The birds are expected to boost hunting in the district.
The Rebekahs completed their regular meeting on Monday night. They initiated Mrs. Josie Mouser into the order. After the meeting, punch and wafers were served to the thirty members present.
Two Myrtle Beach men, foom Weekly and Clydee Goodman, appeared in court before Judge Fegri C Latourette. The charge was changed to assault and battery and both pleaded guilty. They were sentenced to six months in the penitentiary jail with credit for time already served, leaving about two months remaining.
Oregon State College extension agent Helen Cowgill will speak to the 4H clubs in Daye ford and Powers next week. Club leaders Brune Ee Seven said members can get further information from the extension service.
Tus Coos County Firemen's association will meet tomorrow night July 134 at the city hall in North Bend. A speaker from the state fire marshal's office will discuss exposures hazards to surrounding property at the time of a fire.
Two year old Joyce Hall of Catching Creek suffered a severe cut when a broken plate pierced her left arm. The jagged fragment severed a large blood vessel between the elbow and shoulder. She was taken to Mast Hospital where doctors treated the wound under general anesthesia.
The Presbyterian Sunday School will hold its annual picnic in the Bennet grove at Gravelford Sunday after Sunday School. Transportation will be provided from the church. Attendees should bring a plate knife fork spoon and cup and a covered dish. A potluck dinner will be enjoyed.
An early action is taken with examinations halted and a state urging all licensed drivers to renew cards issued before July 1 1931. With the deadline five weeks away, officials warn operators to obtain new licenses at the first opportunity. Examiners will perform notarial duties for applicants without charge and renewal permits are granted through the Wardener office or other authorized administrators.
West Coast telephone company hosts a picnic on Sunday August 6 at Bandon by the Sea. Company provides coffee cream sugar and ice cream. attendees bring a basket lunch for their own families. Activities include swimming in the natatorium, baseball, horseshoes, and dancing in the Silver Spray.
Everett Lafferty suffered a back injury while installing a car battery at Pearce's garage where he works. He is taped and walking on crutches. His two year old son Allen Earl Lafferty cut a deep gash on his left leg and received three clamps at Mast Hospital. The family, including Mrs Lafferty, is recuperating.
The annual picnic for Cops and Curry Counting will be held at Bandon next Sunday July 3. A splendid time is assured to those who plan to attend.

Frank Fish suffered a back injury while helping Jesse Clinton cruise timber in Bone mountain at Rock creek head. He endured pain and was taken to a Bay hospital last Thursday. Weekend X-rays showed three waistline vertebrae mashed after a 15 foot jump to clear a log chain. He has the injury taped, wears a rubber belt, and rests easier.
The Herald received two specimen displays of home grown cherries from Myrtle Point. H. J Radabaugh delivered a branch loaded with Royal Ann cherries, and Dr. O. H. Clarke presented a box of Royal Ann and black cherries artistically arranged. Both displays were greatly appreciated.
Willis Oddy brother of Lloyd Oddy county clerk of Coos county died after a 50 foot fall from a railroad bridge over a dry gulch while employed by Coos Bay Lumber Company. He died in an ambulance en route to hospital. The exact cause of the accident, which occurred in the afternoon, is unknown.
