Strike Settled in Saskatchewan Doctors and Government Reach Agreement

In Saskatoon July 23 provincial doctors and government announced a 23 day protest strike settlement. The plan allows physicians to work outside the medical care program while preserving private insurance options. A special legislative session will be called to adjust the compulsory medical insurance program in line with the doctors proposal.

Kennedy Medicare Plan Defeated in Senate Vote

The Senate voted 248 to 0 to kill President Kennedy's aged care proposal. The President called the defeat a major voter issue for the fall elections and urged rank and file voters to decide the issue on November 6 when voting for senators and representatives.

A Nike Zeus anti missile missile successfully intercepted the nose cone of an Atlas ICBM during a test over the Pacific. The three stage, 48 foot Nike Zeus launched from Kwajalein Island tracked the Air Force missile, which rose to about 600 miles altitude after launch from California, 4500 miles away.

Airliner Crashes in Honolulu Emergency Landing

A Canadian Pacific Britannia turboprop crashed during an emergency landing at Honolulu International Airport on a Sunday night. Twenty seven people were killed and 13 passengers survived with minor injuries. The aircraft struck a runway construction zone and was crushed by heavy machinery. Annual Pioneer Picnic Slated For Sunday

The Cops Curry Pioneer annual picnic is set for Sunday July 29 in Simpson Park North Bend near the pioneer museum. Dinner at 1 pm is potluck and all attenders should bring a dish for the picnic and luncheon service for the family. The queen will be announced and crowned and a short program will follow. Timber Road Tour Highlights Coos Douglas County Access Upgrades

Tire building demonstration planned at Myrtle Point Grange

A tire building demonstration will be held Monday July 30 at 2 pm at the Myrtle Point Grange Supply Store. Demonstration head T F Davidson of Vested Cooperatives describes a live tire build from raw rubber nylon and fabric with factory equipment scaled for public viewing. The event offers spectators a chance to see tire production and learn about construction details. A separate note announces Channel 11 Coos Bay moving to Channel 2, effective Friday July 27.
