Scott Mill will shut down permanently on Saturday September 1 after previously considering sale. The Empire Scott Paper Company did not exercise its option to buy the mill.
The House approved by voice a bill to authorize the 6.168 million upper division of the Baker federal reclamation project in Oregon. A roll call will be taken Wednesday. The bill mirrors Senate Interior Committee action and aims to ease long standing water shortages restricting Baker area farming.
At Chicago Wrigley Field the American League All-Stars defeated the Nationals 9 to 4 on Monday. Leon Wagner of the Los Angeles Angels delivered a go ahead two run homer lifting the AL to a solid victory as their prestige ebbed earlier in the season.
COQUILLE The Coos County Grand Jury returned a true bill verdict Monday in the case filed by District Attorney John Eaton against Kenneth McKay of Mc Kay's Market in North Bend for setting up and operating a lottery. Eaton shifted the charges to M and B corporation, of which McKay its principal stockholder. The lottery charges involve the giving of chances to win an automobile to store customers. Eaton said he had warned the store owner that he was operating a lottery before filing the charges.
An earthquake near Bogota collapsed a shirt factory causing at least 35 deaths and 300 injuries. The disaster occurred Monday afternoon and left widespread destruction over 400 000 square miles.
