The Smith-Hughes conference for high school agricultural teachers will be held at Myrtle Point early August under Earl R. Cooley. About 80 visiting agricultural men plus 70 in families will stay a week, with meals at the high school. Specialists from Oregon State and the University of California join the program, including W H Horning and K L Jones. Wagner plans vegetable supply, meat provided by two Smith-Hughes students, and park and lamb provisions by local residents.

Broadbent cattleman Ella Dement returned from the Portland stock market with two carloads of Hereford steers selling for 12 10 a hundredweight the top price on the Portland market in years. The steers averaged 1800 pounds and attracted praise from local stockmen as a fine lot. County agent Harvey Hale said the cattle were range-raised with no dry feed and Dement was the first to bring Herefords into Coos county earning his noted success.

Dense Myrtle Point Smoke Clouds From Dual Fires
A heavy smoke pall hung over Myrtle Point from two fires late Saturday and Sunday. The larger blaze near Reedport was blamed on a cigarette butt from a passing car. Firefighters under Warden Durbin of Gardner were deployed with hoses and wet sacks to contain it, finally controlled after Sunday. A second blaze near Barker & Baxter camp in the Fairview district was started with permission from Warden Jawhorn to burn brush across a large area.

Grange Plans Farmers Picnic and June Marshfield Meeting
