City Council weighs water pressure fixes and ambulance use
Officials consider two options to boost area water pressure. A $7000 booster pump would raise pressure to 80 pounds at 280 feet, while an $11000 plan adds a 20000 gallon tank at 300 feet with a 1 inch line. The tank plan would serve 60-75 homes with room to grow, and would align with long term city plans. The ambulance service use was also questioned with only two Coquille area calls among 12 since July 1.

Log Truck and Motorcycle Crashes Result in Minor Injuries
In Myrtle Point area last week two drivers escaped serious harm. Michael Stout, 16, of Myrtle Point, hit a truck at Harris and C Streets and was treated for head injuries at McAuley Hospital. Glenn A. Cox of Fairview avoided injury after a log truck crash on Highway 8 near Norway-Myrtle Point, the vehicle tipping onto its side and stopping on railroad tracks. The truck belonged to Haley and Haley Logging.

The event drew 38 principals from 10 western states and Louisiana, chosen from 210 applicants, to learn about new secondary science curriculum developments. Dr F James Rutherford spoke on a course that doubles high school enrollments where adopted.

Coos District Adopts Burning Index Controlled Logging Rules
The Coos Forest Protective District will use Burning Index figures to control logging in the 1969 fire season. Restrictions vary from partial operation closures to complete 24 hour shutdowns with six standard types.
