Dr. E K Engstrom, a University of Oregon Dental College graduate, moves to Myrtle Point with family and buys the old Garden store site to build a modern dental clinic. Contractor Martin Kincheloe completes a two-operating-room facility designed per ADA specs, expected to be ready in 300 days. The Engstrom family resides temporarily in Dr. Gurney’s home.
Portland reports that eight employer groups reaffirmed willingness to renew prewar wage contracts with the IWA CIO Regional Negotiating Committee. H. J. The plant will house delivery trucks cars and broad gas oil and lubrication wholesale and distribution operations with local labor given preference.
At a Coos County Republican Central Committee meeting in Coquille the officers for the next two years were elected. C. J. Ted Pettersen of Coos Bay was named chairman with Minnie King of Powers as vice chairwoman and Arthur V. Smyth of Allegany as secretary. Edgar V. White of Coos Bay elected as committeeman and Myrtlé Point’s Mrs. Edna Anderson among nominating committee members.
Boys and girls 10 to 15 may enter lamb scramble and FFA 13 to 18 may join calf scramble at the Coos County Fair. Calf scramble switched to breeding heifer stock. lambs also bred for stock. Scramblers must file three yearly cost and receipts reports. Applications available at county extension office or from FFA advisors. due August 14.
The first session of the annual Red Cross swim program in the Coquille area ended July 2. June 21 to July 2 classes at the Coquille pool produced 176 Myrtle Point area students. Members of the Broadbent Grange sponsor a pie social at the grange hall on Saturday evening July 24. The event features square dance and cards with ladies and friends invited.

M P Saddle Club to oversee the Coos County Fair parade set for Saturday August 21 at 10 a m in Myrtle Point. Minnie King chairs the parade committee with George Goodson as club president and details to be announced. club members plan a weekend saddle ride to Minnie King’s farm with an overnight at Baker Creek and a return Sunday.
H A Hoyt Myrtle Point Oregon earns fourth Gold Star Herd award after another year on Herd Improvement Registry tests. The 20 cow herd produced 8,862 pounds milk and 517 pounds butterfat in a year, with four year average 9,111 pounds milk and 520 pounds butterfat per cow. Tests verified by Oregon State College and American Jersey Cattle Club.
A Coquille Valley women’s golf event was held on a Wednesday with 18 holes at the Coquille Valley Country Club. Participants included Alice Hammer and Mrs Estelle net, with prizes to be awarded. The article invites more ladies to try golf and attend the tournament.

The body lay in state from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday at the funeral home.
The Church of the Brethren holds a family camp at Myrtlewood three miles from Bridge, July 19 to 25, with a new kitchen and enlarged dining area. Leaders come from La Verne College Elgin Illinois and Oregon churches. Special invitation extended for Thursday vesper services and mountain antiphonal singing. no local church services next Sunday as attendees join camp activities.
