A McKinley School community reunion and potluck picnic will be held Sunday afternoon July 16 for former students and pioneer families. In 1966 the event drew 100 or more from the Northwest. this year attendees from adjoining communities and visitors are expected. Coffee provided by the committee.
Pre registration for the annual swimming lessons will be held tomorrow July 14 at the Myrtle Point city hall from 200 to 400 p m. The Summer Recreation Director Jerry Brodie hopes all swimmers register. The lessons run July 17 28 with transport by three bus loads to the Coquille pool. Bus schedules list age groups from 6 to 9 years and older, with specific buses for each group.
Myrtle Point High School alumni announce their annual reunion picnic this Sunday July 16 at 12 30 PM. Aimed at reconnecting former students and staff, the event will take place at the Myrtle Point area gathering spot with casual activities and fellowship.
The city log details water and sewer work including 4.813 million gallons pumped, 26 man hours on sewer work, and 16 man hours street sweeping. Fire department notes July drills, calls, arrests, and inspections, plus revenue from permits and fees totaling 2,486.68. A Golder Anniversary class of 1927 reunion is planned at Colony and Myr oe Hotel with details for 1927 and 1932 1947 alumni events.
St James Episcopal Church Coquille hosts a Sunday July 16 picnic at Bullards Park near Bandon for parishioners from St Johns Bandon St Mark's Myrtle Point and St Pauls Powers. Activities include children's games and outdoor communion at 1 am. Attendees bring own table service deserts and aids. A 5 cent meal charge applies.
The Bloodmobile returns to Myrtle Point on July 31 from 3 00 p m to 7 00 p m at Myrtle Crest Gym with a 75 unit quota. Curt Beckham local chair says 17 units will replace blood used for Mrs Dean Stevens major surgery in April and asks others who wish to donate to call 572-542. The prior Bloodmobile on January 30 failed to meet the 75 unit quota by 30 units.
Tennis lessons start Monday July 17 at the Rotary Park courts with Miss Beck as instructor. Registration and first sessions begin at 1 00 pm. Participants should bring rackets and balls. The program runs two weeks.
The Oregon Scholastic Press named 249 seniors from 89 schools for outstanding journalism. Awards included Eric W Allen newspaper honors and George Turnbull yearbook prizes, with Greon Powers High School students Miles Jordan and Sue Schrag among winners.
Five OSU sophomores and ten freshmen receive General Foods Fund scholarships for 1967 68. Freshmen gain 400 dollars, sophomores 200 dollars, based on scholarship and future promise. David E Mast of Myrtle Point among sophomores, a food science and technology major, is a former freshman scholar.
The Southwestern Oregon Community College board cut the college district tax levy by 98 660 while lowering the millage from 671 57 to 52 mills. The revised budget totals 658 500, below the original 757 160 levy for 1967 68, due to cash balance, carryover, and state funds. Also, Tom Guerin was sworn in to fill the unexpired term after G E Albertson’s resignation.
Private First Class Michael G McCracken age 20 son of Mr and Mrs Eugene C McCracken Myrtle Point finished an electronics technician course at the Army Signal School Monmouth Junction on June 30 He trained on operation and repair of Army radios radar sets and electronic computers The MPHS 1964 graduate is on 30 day leave visiting parents and reports for duty at Oakland California on August 2.
Richard Mooney-Disdéeder cited for ly conduct and fined 25 dollars. Donald Knight fined 15 for stopsi violation. Ivan Carpenter fined 10 for basic rule violation. Charles Luckett pleads not guilty to petty lar ceny. trial pending.
The Rural Electrification Administration approved a 678 000 loan to Coos Curry Electric Cooperative for rural electrification in Coos and Curry counties. Funds will finance 38.9 miles of new lines 23.6 miles of upgrades and the purchase of transformers and meters serving 329 new customers.
Memorial services will be held at St Marks Episcopal Church Myrtle Point on Saturday July 15 at 1000 am for Beulah K Brown who died July 8 in Vancouver Washington. Officiating will be Father C Bruce Spencer. Brown was born March 9 1892 in Hall Oklahoma and lived in Myrtle Point many years. Survivors include son Perry E Taylor and grandsons Perry E Taylor Jr James W Taylor Robert L Taylor all of Fairfield California. Several nieces and nephews. A memorial fund may be given to St Marks Church Jennie Wise of Mr and Mrs Arther Wise of this city was injured in a one car day July 3 near Myrtle Point.
