The first producer sponsored auction in Oregon will be held by Coos County livestock producers on July 22 at the Howard Leatherman ranch. About 1500 head of locally grown lambs will be sold to the highest bidders. Consigners automatically become members of the Coos County Livestock Marketing Association. Continued on Back Page.
The Rural Electrification Administration approves a $702,000 loan to Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative to connect 500 new members, fund a Brookings Port Orford branch office and storage yards, and improve service across its rural service area including Port Orford Gold Beach and Brookings. President Ivan Laird and GM Bruce Shavere led talks with Rep Charles Porter and the Oregon delegation backing the loan.
Myrtle Point City Council awarded the Maryland Ave curb and gutter project to Woodward, Son & Barklow for 16,347.50 with completion by Sept 10. They reviewed water system reports by R. H. Ericksen, considering metering citywide as current use runs about 300 gallons per day per capita, far above the state average, and debated plans to improve supply, storage, and filtration.

The legislature passes House Bill 174 uniting all Coos County districts into the Rural School District. The current five member board expands to seven with two new members elected at a September meeting attended by district school board members. County superintendent becomes appointive, chosen by the Rural School Board, with costs absorbed into the equalized levy until January 1961.
The State Land Board approved a record $415 406.05 earnings distribution from the irreducible school fund to Oregon public schools. Governor Robert D Holmes said the amount equals about 87 cents per pupil for 475 543 students, a 35 year high. Earnings come from about $14 million in irreducible funds from sales of school grant lands timber and sand and gravel royalties. Transfer of 104 493 acres of timber lands to the State Forestry Board was approved, including Elliott State Forest Lands in Coos and Douglas counties totaling 71 643 acres.
Myrtle Point Lions heard reports on the Lions International Convention held in San Francisco. Delegates Bill Downing Ralph Whitaker and George Linn described a 40 000 plus attendance with 58 nations, a grand Market Street parade, and flag presentations in the hall. Local youths Keith Schroeder Ben Kissel and Bob Bowers attended Beaver Boys State at Oregon State College.
Robert C. Belloni, newly appointed circuit judge for Coos and Curry counties, addressed the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce about the rationale for creating three circuit districts. He explained how the district now includes Coos and Curry counties and detailed the expanded duties for the circuit court, noting cases formerly handled by county courts.
Twenty players from the Bandon golf club will visit the Coquille Valley club next Sunday for a local tournament at 9 a.m. They are guests of the host club and should arrive by 8:30 to arrange the foursomes.
Agness Community Council invites all people to a Sunday August 11 event on the Rogue River. A barbecue at noon, queen crown ceremony, and a white water boat race with $1000 in prizes. Race starts at Lary Lucas landing to Wade and back for 12 miles.

Coos county residents must submit parade theme ideas by 5 PM this Saturday. The winner receives free admission for the winner and their immediate family to gate and grandstand shows at the Big Coos County Fair. Last year’s theme was Cees Cafe She.
